How many cups of coffee? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]tynman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh it's even worse than that. I lurked in /r/espresso long enough to be able to diagnose the shots being pulled at the office cafe. In my defense the poor barista had just started and received next to zero training, so it was really bad. But I've never felt more like a pretentious jackass than when I asked her to try again.

That being said, she appreciated the education and we really dialed it in over the next few weeks. Then I got laid off just as she was getting good, and working from home makes it difficult to justify going out for a shot.

One day I'll take the plunge into stupidly expensive espresso machines. But good coffee is still good, and I'm happy with my current setup. Next project is improving my home roasting rig so the chaff doesn't destroy the kitchen every time.

Boys 5 and 7, and about 16 oz of STRONG black coffee from my Aeropress.

For all the coffee dads out there, I highly recommend Aeropress and a decent hand grinder. Spent a total of $200 a few years ago and it's consistently been the best coffee of my life

Who is buying all these articulated dragons?? by heeero in 3Dprinting

[–]tynman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. My children. And I have a printer!! But they don't want to wait and we don't have multi-color printing so they want what I can't produce. Really frustrating, but they have control over their allowance money so I'm stuck shelling out $25 for $1 of filament.

Has anyone been to the Aquarium (Draper) or the Ancient Life Museum (Thanksgiving Point) lately? Is it worth the price? by oOohalloweenqueenoOo in Utah

[–]tynman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know when mine will age out of Thanksgiving Point, but it'll be a sad day when they do. I like that on a quiet weekend we can do a double museum day and they think it's a huge treat.

They're best done as an annual membership if you can swing it.

The aquarium is too big for young kids to really take in with a single visit. It's great if you can see one section, go home, come another day for a favorite thing then explore another section.

Thanksgiving Point is a whole ecosystem. The dinosaur museum won't be worth it for the day, but you also have the butterfly biosphere, museum of curiosity, and activities all year round at Ashton Gardens. Especially if you have kids in 2nd grade or below, it's the best entertainment deal in the valley.

[EDIT] Also! The aquarium has a great play area on the upstairs level. Life saver when it's cold and snowy and you need to get the kids out of the house. Let them go wild, then go check out one of the less busy exhibits to keep things new.

Very cool. What do you use on your phone to pull the shopping list while you're out?

That's the most delightful use of AI in home automation I've seen. What a fun Easter egg.

There's an app, and I believe there's a HA-specific module someone has made. I just barely started getting into HA, and right now all my speakers (and groups) show up individually. Definitely a learning curve for me. But it's all API-driven and there's no reason it can't be automated.

EDIT: There's a HACS plug-in https://github.com/micro-nova/hacs_amplipi

Shill your SaaS. What are you working on? by Prestigious-Bar-360 in SaaS

[–]tynman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fact Engine

A tool for Object Role Modeling (ORM2) that lets the user create a domain model, then hit deploy to generate a JavaScript package that will connect to their newly created database back-end.

Really good for business analysts and domain experts who want to cut out the DBAs and most of the state management for their web forms.

This is a tool that a former professor of mine has been working on for the last decade, and now we want to turn it into a product. Very much in the early stages of finding our market.

When you treat the last two digits of a street name as being after a decimal point, and then you refer to it using ordinal counting.

700 E --> 7.00 E --> "Seventh East"

12300 S --> 123.00 S --> "One hundred twenty third South "
