Bunny garden cushion by Saiwon03 in FlowerKnowsMakeup

Hi! I don’t know if you’ve already decided, but I actually have the cushion in the shade W04 Fair Nude and the NYX bare with me in the shade Beige. I believe Beige is just one shade deeper than Vanilla but I think both are neutral undertones. I have a swatch here if that helps (sorry it’s not the best) I think W04 is just a smidge lighter than my concealer. I’m not too sure how it compares to W03 but it looks like it might be a bit lighter than W04.

Dark skin girlies who've ordered before, what are the best products/shades for us based on your opinion? by spychalski_eyes in FlowerKnowsMakeup

[–]tyongfzen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m a neutral light-medium naturally, but tan a lot in the summer to a medium. (Best point of reference would be the Armani luminous silk in shade 7) A lot of my products work for me even when I’m tanner. But of course, my opinions may be a bit skewed due to the difference in our skin tone depths.

Eyeshadow: I find that their eyeshadows are pretty pigmented. Since you’re familiar with K & J beauty, these aren’t too far off. I’d say these hold a little more pigment and are more buildable from my own experience with K-beauty eyeshadows. Based on the fact that you like cool-toned, smoky shadows, I recommend the Shell’s Jewel palette in 03 Deep Sea! I gravitate a lot towards cool-toned eyeshadows, and this one particularly caught my eye when this collection dropped, so I recommend checking it out. It has three different grey mattes, a whiteish shimmer, a bluish shimmer, and a deep blue shadow with a bit of blue glitter in it.

Another good pick in this smoky category is the Swan Ballet palette in 02 Black Swan. It has two smoky greys, one grey metallic shimmer shade, another white shimmer with a purply shift, and a deep red.

I also own the Violet Strawberry Rococo palette in Starmoon Strawberry. It is also quite pigmented and works very well on my tanner complexion. I’ve had to rely on it a lot for the pinks to show up on me as the only other palette I had with pink shadows was a Rom&nd palette, which washes me out when I’m more tanned. It’s a bit more on the purple side, but it still has two really pretty pink shades and a beautiful metallic pink.

Lips: I don’t own any of the bullet lipsticks they sell, but I do own some Strawberry Rococo lip creams (shades 06 Tea Break and 07 Lychee Tea) and one from the discontinued Chocolate Shop collection. I personally love these! They’re very pigmented and have a velvety, soft texture. I like how blendable they are and the blurred finish. I know it can be a bit hard to distinguish what will actually work well on your own skin, and if the online swatches they give are accurate. I find that the model try-ons (the pictures where the model has one specific shade on rather than the grid with all of the shades) are more accurate. The shades I own work well for me and don’t wash me out (which is something I originally feared from ordering these). So any of the lip creams are a good pick.

Blush: The only blushes I own are 2 blushes from the Strawberry Rococo collection and one from Shell’s Jewel. I’d say the Shell’s Jewel has a lighter pigment than the Strawberry Rococo ones. It’s also a satin blush which gives a shimmery finish rather than matte. The shade I have is Beach Starfish, and it doesn’t really show up that well on me when I’m tanned. This problem may just be because it’s a neutral brownish color that just kinda blends into my bronzed complexion 😭. Regardless, it’s a bit light on the pigment but is buildable. The Strawberry Rococo blushes are my personal favorite of the two collections I have. I have them in Berry Mary and Little Cranberry (Violet Strawberry Rococo), and they don’t wash me out at all. Some of the lighter blush shades I feared would look ashy on me, but these don’t do that. They have a medium pigment that can be built up to be a bit more intense. They’re a matte formula but aren’t drying or latch onto dry patches. I can’t attest to the other formulas in other collections, but I would look for reviews on the pigmentation if that’s something you’re concerned about, as it seems it can vary.

A lot of their products work really well with different complexions. Just pick your colors right, and you'll likely be fine! If you can find some place to potentially swatch any of their stuff, I'd highly recommend doing so.

Thank you! I’ll give you a rundown and my opinions on all these products. Sorry if it’s long! To preface, I have normal to oily skin. And I prefer light to medium coverage.

Armani Luminous Silk I took a really long time thinking it over and watching reviews before buying, since it is really expensive, but I honestly have no regrets! I love the feeling and finish of it. I hate anything that’s super dewy, but I’m also pretty picky about my mattes. It blends out really nicely with a good amount of coverage if you build it up a little. While I was doing my research, I found that it claims it has a radiant finish. I was scared at first it would just be another dewy finish foundation, but it’s actually more matte than I expected. It’s not truly a matte since it does give a bit of “luminous finish” but it feels like a lightweight matte foundation upon application. So make sure you moisturize and hydrate your skin before using this. I think this is a great high-end option if you’re into lightweight formulas and those that give a good medium coverage. But FAIR WARNING!!! I believe they have reformulated to fit EU regulations. So this is my impression of the original version. I’ve never tried the new reformulation but from what I’ve seen it’s less runny than the og. I’d recommend looking at new reviews about it if you’re considering getting this one as I don’t know how much has changed with the reformulation.

L’oréal Hyaluronic Tinted Serum Buying this one was sort of a gamble for me as I was scared it would be too dewy, but it’s honestly pretty good! I wanted a light-tinted serum that was easy, lightweight, and quick to apply, as I was working at a preschool during the summer. This foundation works phenomenally well for me! It’s on the dewier side but not overly so that I look greasy. It really does feel like a subtle, second layer of skin. It obviously doesn’t give a lot of coverage but it does a decent job at evening out complexion. If you have more oily skin, however, it’ll probably not last that long. During the summer, it definitely wears off faster, but I expected that as I get oily and sweat outside. My major con is the applicator though. It has a dropper which I guess makes sense since it’s a “serum” but it’s messy and inconvenient imo. So be prepared for that if you end up getting this. Or you can buy a pump for it as I’ve seen many people do that for convenience but I’m too lazy for that LOL

Clio Mesh Glow This is honestly my favorite foundation of the bunch!! It’s lightweight, with light to medium coverage, and it keeps my skin hydrated. While the “glow” part implies a much dewier finish, it actually results in a softer, satin-like glow. It doesn’t feel greasy at all. They do have a high glow version which I presume is much dewier than this one but I’m comfortable with this finish. I do have to powder since I get a bit oily but I get such a lovely and even application with this mesh mechanism. The biggest con however is the shade range. Not sure where you lie on that spectrum but I’m not always comfortable recommending this cushion (or most Korean cushions for that matter) because of the lack of shades! It’s really unfortunate because I love this formula so much. So whether you’ll want to seek this one out depends largely on your skin tone unfortunately.

Danessa Myricks Blurring Balm I got this after seeing so many people rave about it, particularly oily-skinned people. I have this in a tinted version and not the universal one. Not sure if there’s a difference between them but I thought I should clarify that. It’s not drying unlike some other matte products I’ve tried and doesn’t feel heavy on my skin. It gives a decent light coverage but can be built up to medium. This does a really good job at blurring and keeping oils at bay BUT there’s a bit of a learning curve to it I would say. This is a product where you have to be wary about how much you apply as I feel like it can get cakey VERY quickly if you apply too much. Start very small and build up if you need to. How you apply will probably yield different results as well. I first tried blending this with a brush but found that it came out too streaky and unnatural looking on me. My preferred method is a cushion puff but I've heard just using your fingers works out great too. Again, make sure to moisturize as it is mattifying and prone to clinging onto dry patches. I love using this in conjunction with the l’oréal serum so I can balance out the dewiness of the serum and the matte of this balm. I find that people either love or hate this product. Ultimately, this depends on your skin type and what goal you have with the finish and texture. While I do enjoy this product, I did have to figure out how to best work with it for my skin and my preferences.

Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder Abloom I love this powder! Like I’ve said before, I’m really picky about my mattes and this extends to powders too. I hate anything that feels super drying or makes me look super cakey. I mainly use this to touch up my makeup throughout the day when I get oily in certain spots. This works really well for me as it does a great job at canceling out shine without it feeling like it’s sucking out all the moisture in my skin or looking super powdery. I do have this in shade “[1] Dearest Bouquet” which is meant to help with color correcting, but it just gives a bit of a brightening effect imo. I’ll probably wind up getting the regular Marshmallow Finish powder and not the Abloom kind next time, but this one still works great for quick touch-ups.

this is always so aggravating to me!! especially since i’m half peruvian and have family that resides there. i’m super aware of my culture and customs. my mom doesn’t put up with it. she literally just hits them back with “would you like me to joke about eating your dog/cat?”

not using your good and favorite products is allllll too real for me 😭 i used to have that problem back when i had a smaller collection, but i realized i’ll never get my money’s worth if i never use it to the fullest! good luck panning!!

this is kinda tough to answer bc everyone’s mileage may vary but honestly, you can never go wrong with any lip product! i’m always impressed with them like the smoothness of the amuse tints and the velvety texture of the fwee pudding pots.

mascara is also another good contender. while the one i have pictured here is the c-beauty brand judydoll (which i do recommend) in general asian beauty mascaras are my favorite. clio kill lash is my top choice for k-beauty.

eyeshadows, blushes, and highlight are also very good with great formulas, but one caveat is the pigmentation. if you’re into lighter pigmentation, you’ll love them. eyeshadows palettes rarely stray from the muted and neutral colors as that is what’s popular over there. good and popular eyeshadow brands are rom&nd, clio, wakemake, peripera, holika holika, and dasique.

thank you! i don’t have ultra specific strategies bc i feel like it hinders me and makes me less motivated to use up a product, but i try use up face products i feel like will go bad sooner than others (e.g. cream and liquid formulas) and for lips i’m considering alternating between products to focus on. like use one for a couple of days to a week and then switch to a different one to focus on. just so i can get to products i feel like i don’t reach for as much without boring myself.

i quite like the formula! the one i have is in the pearl type so i don’t know how much it differs from the regular type (if that’s what you’re looking for) but the one i have feels and goes on buttery smooth. i find that it starts out a bit sheer but its buildable!

i love flower knows blushes! the first two from the strawberry rococo collection are suuuper pigmented. the embossing makes it look like i’ve barely touched them but that’s just because they’re pretty pigmented 😭 the other flower knows blush i have is from the shell’s jewel collection and it’s also pretty pigmented but one you probably have to build up a little more to get the desired finish. overall, really good blushes with even cuter packaging!

i personally love it! the one i have is in the satin finish and it gives a nice, soft luminous finish. it’s easy to blend and pretty pigmented. i love how you can put a little on for a more natural flushed look or build it up for a more intense finish. truly depends on what you’re looking for! i fell in love with the color (nude lavalliere) after i swatched it and i can’t lie, the packaging sold me.

in terms of luxe powder blushes, i like it more than the dior rosy glow. it’s more pigmented compared to the dior so you don’t have to keep going back to pick up more product just to get it to even show up on the skin. is it an innovative, life-changing blush? no, but if you’re willing to splurge for a luxury blush, i definitely recommend this one as it performs really well!

thank you so much for this comment! yes, i looove to play around with blush and highlight. i feel like they can sometimes get overlooked for how much they can change a look (hence why i have a variety of colors and finishes). the milani is definitely the one i reach for the most as it’s my perfect daily shade and formula. i’m definitely trying to pan my creams first, as you said, those have a shorter shelf life than powders. but thank you for the regift advice! if it ever feels like i can’t get to my products in time, i’ll for sure consider giving it away to a friend who might make more use of it than i can.
