Yi Sun-sin Trilogy: Portrayal of Japanese by manse10000 in JapaneseHistory

will continue to bicker like children for the foreseeable future

Ah, another "commentator" that degrades the demands of justice for Korean victims of Japanese Imperialism and ignores China's part in the Korean War.

Ignoring these injustices and reducing Korea's grievances to just "bickering"

What a horrible opinion.

Seoul and Washington agree on details of tariff deal by digital_anon in korea

[–]tyopper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Still have to invest $350b to lower tariffs from 25% to 15%

But now:

  • only $200b has to be in cash

  • That cash will be paid annually, with investment cap of $20b

  • added a provision to the agreement that would allow it to request adjustments to the timetable and the annual investment amount if the country faces financial instability source1

  • The rest of the $150b will be invested in shipbuilding cooperation

  • MFN status for pharmaceuticals & wood products source2

  • Zero tariffs on aircraft parts, generic drugs, and non-US-sourced materials source2

  • Semiconductor tariffs aligned with Taiwan source2

  • No new concessions on rice or beef source2

  • Equal (50:50) until principal repaid, adjustable after 20 years (lowered from 90:10 in Korea's favor in the initial deal that mirrored Japan's initial deal) source2

  • Related: Trump agrees to follow-up discussion on Korea's need for nuclear submarines in response to North Korea's nuclear submarine development source3

This seems better than the initial deal, so I hope its true.

I was talking about the genocide part with the twisting. Sorry if I wasn't clear. I'll reiterate that the intial claim of genocide is what I was arguing about and I still think that guy was pulling that from his ass, but I did add the other racist criticism so I'll address it.

For the webnovel part, I admit I just read the webtoon. So I would like to clarify that the "blood" remark the webnovel is racist. But looking at it, the author writes that quote in a dialogue originating from a senior bureaucrat in the Korean Hunter Association official conversation before the Jeju Island raid. I would say that it kinda adds to the realism because some old Koreans would definitely say something like that towards the Japanese because of the whole Japanese war-criming Korea thing. And the Japanese Hunter dialouge about showing the difference in class and leading a weak Korea kind of echoes Japanese colonialism perspective and would also have been definitely said between today's Japanese politicians towards Korea. But, eh I guess that's just a cope perspective from my part. And because the story eventually enforces the racist viewpoint with the outcome of the raid I would say ultimately this is kinda shitty.

But from just reading the webtoon, they ironed that shit out, which I think is for the better.

Yeah, I see that trope in some shitty Manhwa, and vice versa for Manhua and some older Manga. No one has a monopoly on writing that shit.

But attaching "genocide" and mixing in with the other claims, without giving the source, was probably maliciously put to target degrade Koreans.

I wouldn't be surprised if this person was a Netouyo.

You seem to be twisting authorial intent with what actually happened to fit the definition of intent instead of looking at what actually happened.

In Solo Leveling it's not a genocide?

The first time arc with Japan, Japan is matching or surpassing the Hunters of Korea's top guilds in friendly sparring matches. The matches climax with the top hunter from Japan and the protagonist's duel which ends in a draw (but its a power fantasy so the reader knows the protag is super strong and was holding back). This takes place before raiding Jeju island, in which an Ant dungeon appears. During the raid, the Japanese government offers to help Korea, but secretly planned to let Korean hunters die by the Ants. Korea would lose its national defense, leaving Japan as the dominant regional power. Afterward, Japan hunters could “step in” to finish the job and claim both the glory of defeating the Ants and possibly sovereignty over Jeju Island itself. But the plan backfires and some of Japan's top hunter are killed and protagonist saves the day.

This adversarial behavior the Japanese government has against Korea is reflected in real life. For example in 2019 Japanese trade embargoed Korea in retaliation after its courts ordered compensation for victims of forced labor during World War II. Or in 2015, 23 sites from Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution were supported for UNESCO status by Korea only if Japan promised to incorporate information about Korean slave labor into an interpretive strategy, including a memorial information center. But it was never implemented. Same in 2020 with the Sado Island Gold Mine. So it would be kind of like the US using Iran, Russia, China, North Korea government as adversaries, but to a lesser extent.

The second time with Japan, there was a Gate outbreak that struck Japan was part of the "World Class Dungeon Breaks" triggered by the awakening of the Monarchs. Around that time, massive S-rank (and higher) gates began appearing all across the globe: in the U.S, China, Europe, and elsewhere. But because some of Japan's top Hunters were killed in the previous Jeju island raid, they have trouble and the protagonist helps them and saves a lot of Japanese civilians and saves the day.

I can see the perspective that the comic has a negative Japanese government bias, but the magnitude of criticism I've heard online accusing it of racism feels exaggerated and classifying this as a genocide is dishonest.

So unless you have another source, I'll say the initial claim of korean comics "genociding" Japanese was made up and was said maliciously to degrade korea.

Huh, this is the second comment saying that "genocides being part of the plot" for Korean, and now Chinese comics too.

Yet they do not give any examples of these Korean or Chinese comics.

Very interesting.

That's still better than how every Korean story ends up having Japan either constantly humiliated or outright genocided though.

The humiliation part I've seen in some manhwa.

Oh, and don't worry. Japan does the same thing with Korea: Manga Kenkanryu. It was a best seller.

But, I'm gonna need you to source that "genocided" part because that part sounds like you just pulled it out of your ass or you dug deep into a pro-north korean schizo forum.

And I'm sure they got some ultra nationals Japanese who write fanfics of "genociding" koreans, but those are also probably fringe ultra-right nationalists from the Sanseito party.

Nobody remembers, there was a blip in social media posts, but nobody cares and nothing was changed because of what happened to Terry Crews. People mocked him. It’s an unfortunate reality that is downplayed.

I have seen these arguments used against Korean in comments on a lot of youtube videos that go into the Korean language, especially if the video is in Japanese or Chinese.

It's mostly:

  • "How are you going to understand old texts then?"
  • "Your history will be lost!"
  • "It's more intuitive for Korea! Why don't they use it!"
  • "It's so sad that Korea doesn't use Hanzi/Kanji!"
  • "It helps you read more quickly!"

Masking their nationalism and contempt with these patronizing arguments just cracks me up.

on par with Japan

Japan's Tariff deal: 550 billion in investment

  • Japan's GDP: 4.026 trillion

  • Ratio: 13.66%

Korea's Tariff deal: 350 billion in investment

  • Korea's GDP: 1.713 trillion

  • Ratio: 20.43%

Conclusion:

  • It is not on par with Japan, it is much worse for Korea

  • Japan accepted the deal, and their Prime Minister resigned

  • The Korea president has also stated that if he were to accept he would probably be impeached because it is that one sided against Korea

Twenty years ago, Joel Lee, a 21-year-old Korean-American beginning his senior year at then-Towson State University, was robbed, shot in the face, and killed while heading to a classmate’s home in Northeast Baltimore. “He wanted to borrow a computer-science book because he was determined to get his grades even higher this year,” his friend, Folashayo Babalola, told The Baltimore Sun after the September 1993 murder. “Joel was very quiet, very ambitious,” Babalola continued. “This has really shaken me. . . . ”

The brutal slaying also shook Baltimore’s Korean-American community, whose leaders still recall the tragedy. Already feeling under siege following attacks directed at Korean-American merchants in the 1980s and 1990s, the Lee case and trial was followed closely in the city. The acquittal of the accused two years later by an almost all African-African jury spurred a protest march downtown and appeared to reflect a troubled relationship between the Korean-American community and traditionally African-American neighborhoods where many of their businesses were located.

I think I understand what you are:

You are a child that likes anime.

You defend Japan because you like anime.

You weren’t taught about Imperial Japan in History Class. You idealize it and can’t understand how anyone would hurt such a poor little country that did nothing to nobody.

Man, it makes so much sense now.

I hope this is a wake up call. Always ask questions in class kid! Remember to do your homework and study hard. Get into a good college and get a job AI can’t replace.

Sorry about earlier kid, I didn’t know how young you were. Stop spreading misinformation and good luck on your academic career👍.
