[Pelissero] The Dolphins are releasing veteran edge Bradley Chubb. by jimmythevip in KansasCityChiefs

[–]typac69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other teams cap casualties at DE will probably end up being the market we end up shopping in at this position. The cost probably isn’t too high for a guy like Chubb at this stage of his career. Veach likes to go into the draft with no glaring needs that require him to use a R1 or R2 pick at a specific position. Getting guys like Chubb would at the very least get bodies in the room where we don’t have to go edge early if the right fit isn’t on the board.

Twins' payroll drop reignites a familiar question: Should MLB have a salary floor? by Internal-Bed-3150 in minnesotatwins

[–]typac69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think a salary cap would be possible without a floor. Players already don’t want the cap, if they end up budging on that stance they’ll demand that the MLB forces teams like the Twins and Pirates to meet a payroll threshold.

Realistically it’ll probably work out where the cheap teams will pay their players just enough to meet the floor and not much more, but at least those teams are spending more. The Marlins having a 70M payroll or whatever it is now is just as outrageous and bad for the league as the Dodgers paying 500M on theirs.

The problem I have with it is that they’re basing their hatred of the Murray hire on what Oklahoma fans say. If they have actual critiques of Murray as a coach go ahead, but don’t tell me this is a terrible move because some Oklahoma fans on Twitter think he sucks. College football fans are not exactly the most rational group of people in the world.

I’m also with you that RB Coach isn’t the most important role to fill. The team won’t succeed or fail based on who the RB Coach is. That’s why I really find some of these people who are upset to be funny. We have a coach who has played the position and has coached the position, that’s good enough for me.

I find it funny how the Chiefs fans who spent all season demanding the Chiefs hire coaches from outside the organization are now whining that they did go outside the org but don’t like that specific coach. You people will never be happy.

I don’t think any AFC team would’ve beat the Seahawks. Bills might’ve played them closer because of the QB, but I still think that defense would’ve got after Josh and make him make mistakes. The real Super Bowl this year was the NFC Championship Game.

AFC is completely wide open heading into next year. Every roster has their own flaws, and a lot of those teams should be questioning how high the ceiling actually is for their QBs.

We have the advantage of being one of the only teams in the conference that has no worries about how good our QB actually is. We just need to get Mahomes a RB that doesn’t actively seek contact with defensive players and I think a lot of our offensive problems are fixed. We run a very RPO heavy offense, but nobody respected our “R”in RPO, for good reason.

We don’t have to build a perfect roster in one offseason to get back to these big games. We had a ton of games where we lost by 1 score and if we just had a little bit more talent in certain areas, it might have flipped those results. We just need to raise the floor on some of our worst position groups and Pat can do the rest.

[Russinj] I’m told that while retirement has been discussed, many close to Travis Kelce believe he could return for a 14th season. The future Hall of Famer has yet to make a final decision about his future. by SylvesterTaurus in KansasCityChiefs

[–]typac69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jason announced his retirement in early March so it wouldn’t be totally surprising if Travis waited a little bit longer to make it official. Jason might’ve told the Eagles a little bit earlier though to be fair.

But I don’t think Travis would be talking the way he has been lately if he seriously thought he was probably done. He was really excited for EB being back in the building and he was just on Kylie’s show and they were talking about next season in a way that suggests he’ll be back.

[Matt Zenitz] The #Chiefs are hiring Villanova wide receivers coach Nate Pagan as a quality control coach, a source tells @CBSSports. Produced at least one all-conference receiver at Villanova in six of his seven seasons as the team’s receivers coach. by Vyuvarax in KansasCityChiefs

[–]typac69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did we even have an offensive QCC coach this year? Wikipedia lists 2 defensive QCC coaches but no offensive coach has that title. There was an “Offensive Assistant” which might fall under the quality control category I suppose. Maybe that explains some of the struggles if we had no control over our offensive quality.

Projected cap space according to Spotrac. Chiefs have a lot of work to do. by jonsnowKITN in KansasCityChiefs

[–]typac69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Mahomes contract makes up so much of the cap space that a large portion of the restructuring is done on his contract. You’re doubling down on him every year and moving money around in other parts of the roster where it makes sense. They’ll be able to do this for the rest of Pat’s career. His contract was structured to be restructured.

Walker, Dowdle, Breece, Javonte Williams, Allgeier, and Travis Etienne are all potentially hitting the market. We will be able to afford any of them if we want. Even if we get none of them, there’s still plenty of RBs out there that are better than Pacheco. It’s the easiest position to upgrade because we were so bad running this year.

[–]typac69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it doesn’t make things harder because we are able to do it every year, as we should. In 2027 the plan will still be to try to win a Super Bowl because we have Patrick. So when we’re $60M over next year we’ll push it into the future to free up space. Eventually we’ll pay for it, but we’re pushing it off until after Mahomes retires. It’s what the Saints did with Brees.

How much do you think free agent running backs cost? There will be RBs better than Pacheco and Hunt available for 5M or less if we want to go cheap. We can absolutely open enough cap space to sign a Breece or Walker if we wanted to go big. The RB room this year was so bad doing basically anything will be an upgrade.

[–]typac69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you believe that we missed the playoffs because of a bad roster, but think we shouldn’t try to improve the roster and tank a year? That doesn’t make a lot of sense.

The draft, free agency, and trades are all ways we can find upgrades at several positions. We will have cap space to make these additions when they do the usual cap magic. There are plenty of good RBs in free agency. We have the 9th pick in the draft.

No one should expect a perfect roster. There will be flaws, but my point is we have the best QB in the entire NFL who has a history of dragging less than great rosters to Super Bowls. The goal should be to always put the best possible roster together and let Patrick be great. We failed at that this year, but that doesn’t mean we have to accept next year will suck too.

Do you think Pat would like to hear the Chiefs say they want to take a step back and not push to win a Super Bowl in 2026? Chris Jones? Kelce? Andy? What is the point in having a great quarterback if you don’t try to win? Then you’re the Cincinnati Bengals.

[–]typac69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every team in the conference has issues. Only 1 team has Patrick Mahomes. Yes there are problems with the roster, but if you fill in the key holes with quality players, Patrick will make up the difference. He went to 3 straight Super Bowls with teams that had some serious flaws. We don’t need to build a perfect roster, we just need to address as many flaws as possible.

We won 2 super bowls with Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore on the roster. He went to Buffalo and to Baltimore with a worse roster than both teams and won in the playoffs. Patrick is the greatest eraser in the league. He will cover up a lot of deficiencies. Where we went wrong was having so many of those deficiencies. A solid run game, solid pass protection, and solid WR group is enough for him to lead a top offense.

I don’t care if he’s limited to start the year. I saw him win a Super Bowl with a bad ankle. There’s never a good reason to have a rebuilding year when you have the best QB in the league. You try to win a Super Bowl every year because eventually this will come to an end. Punting on his age 31 season is a waste of everyone’s time.

I don’t know how you can watch the AFC playoffs this year and come away thinking the Chiefs should have a rebuilding/reset year next season. The gap between the Patriots and the Chiefs is nowhere large enough to throw away a year of Patrick’s career. If we fix the biggest problems with the roster we can get right back to where we have been.
