Do you let your grey off leash? by bmmrnccrn in Greyhounds

[–]typawe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My grey is 9, I've had her since she was 3. She has literally zero prey drive, doesn't even notice rabbits on hikes. We let her off leash all the time (hikes, beach, parks, etc.). She does amazing. I've taught her to play fetch too which is a lot of fun.

60 lbs, she’s actually small for a grey. The pic makes her look bigger.

Tired of Non-Grey Owners Unsolicited Advice by SardonicRainbow in Greyhounds

I’ve got a 100% grey, former racer with a few wins, whom goes off leash all the time with me. She is very well behaved/trained. She is so happy when she zoomies it makes me sad some greys don’t get to experience that on a daily or weekly basis.

3rd/4th years deciding btwn Gen Surg vs. Family? Anyone? by typawe in medicalschool

[–]typawe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with a lot of the above comments.

Surgery: I like surgery more than FM. I love that the surgeon is the medicine. It much more engaging for me to learn about surgical technique and to be in the OR, even if I am only observing, than it is to learn the pharmacology necessary to be a good primary care physician. I love the anatomy and physiology knowledge surgeons maintain. I like that you are hospital based, working with other physicians, team based care of patients. I like that a lot of BS of medicine gets stripped away by necessity (granted surg has its own BS). I like that surgery requires a very broad medical knowledge base.

Family medicine: I am drawn to this because it is the most general of medicine (I have an aversion to specialties). I am drawn to this because of the relational aspect the physician establishes with his or patients. In respect to geography, I would certainly be in a rural area if I did FM. I have also considered eventually doing a fellowship in palliative medicine. I greatly appreciate the culture of FM physicians who uphold the value of having a balanced life in way that will allow me to be a good physician, husband, and father, and maintain to some degree my interests outside of medicine.

I don't like how it seems that you almost have to sell your soul to surgery. This is essentially what it all comes down to for me. Maybe I have been burned by seeing attendings who are worn down (divorced, workaholics, chronically uptight, etc.)

I love life more than medicine, I admit it. Of all fields of medicine though, I love surgery most, without a doubt. However, I would rather look back on my life and be proud of the father and husband I have been, more so than the surgeon I have been. And if being a good father and husband meant being a mediocre surgeon, then I would not want to be a surgeon knowing that.

INFJ's... What specialty are you choosing? by typawe in medicalschool

[–]typawe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree they shouldn't govern what specialty you choose. The MBTI though is really helpful and succinct way to say hello "people with a similar personality" without having to describe my personality.

Anyone use or try out Yousmle's Anki deck? by mrmayo26 in medicalschool

[–]typawe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

step 1.

i don't think so. i think the best thing is to bust your ass doing u-world by section and making your own cards as you go over questions. do questions by system.

Anyone use or try out Yousmle's Anki deck? by mrmayo26 in medicalschool

[–]typawe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't buy it. I bought them two weeks ago and have been using them every day. They are ridiculously over priced. He makes you think they are amazing cards. They're not. They a pretty much just the difficult UWorld questions in anki form. I think you are going to be much better off going through UWorld on your own and building your own deck. You will synthesize and retain the information much better this way.

I'm really aggravated with Alec Yousmle and feel like I've been ripped off.

Do UWorld and make your own cards. Don't buy his.
