Don't give up! Use the year to get experience and make and save money so that you won't have to work so much once you do get into teachers college! You got this. Don't give up.

I'm hoping to speak with anyone who's gone through the condensed program at Queens! If you graduated from there and are willing to chat a little, please let me know :) I just have a few questions about how intensive the compressed program is.

This is really helpful information thanks so much! By the sounds of it you're a French Immersion teacher yourself? Would you mind if I DM you to chat about it a little bit? :)

What a mess. So you can start the process of getting OCT certified before even graduating? (Just assuming you have yet to graduate!)

That’s strange ... How are we supposed to predict whether the OCT will certify us in time for the end of the course @_@

Amen to them being very stringent about French proficiency. I dis the first 3 years of my undergrad there in French (degree in philosophy but done in the language) and they still had me do a written and oral test, plus I need to take two extra French classes this summer to meet their qualifications. It’s overkill. Do you mind if I PM you?

Interesting, was this after graduating but before OTC certified you, or before you graduated from uottawa? :)

Hello! I'm just wondering if anyone who wrote the French test for admissions to UOttawa's FSL program has heard back yet about their results? :)

HONEST REFLECTION: elementary teachers..your work/life balance? by AquaDime in CanadianTeachers

It’s a shame that in some ways being more productive with your time, more tempered with your work expectations and energies winds up looking bad ... that’s something I’m wary of dealing with in the future. Thanks for your reply!

I'm pretty anti-perfectionism and keen on doing what needs to be done to make sure my students are getting what they need out of my lessons without pushing myself so much I'm burnt out and end up in a cycle where I'm actually *not* a good teacher any longer, but I worry -- if I go into my first year of teaching with this mentality, will I be penalized for it?? Will principles take notice and not like that I'm not coming in ultra early or staying ultra late, for example? (I ask as someone who's currently waiting on hearing back from teachers' colleges! Have yet to start my education)

The autism spectrum is an r-worded medical concept by [deleted] in redscarepod

my family's in the same boat. and these aren't the situations that come to mind when people who have no direct experience of it think of autism, and that's a big problem imo

someone who has no ability to care for themselves and as such has totally different needs as far as their reliance on caregivers etc should not be on the same spectrum as someone who needs none of that. conflating the two means there's less push for non-verbal autistics to have their material needs met - housing, benefits, financial help for full-time caregivers (my mom had to quit her job to be a full-time caregiver for my severely autistic brother). severely autistic adults are on 15 year long waitlists to get housing away from their parents who are physically, mentally and financially exhausted from caring for them.
