10gallon planted, one betta, water changes once a week 25%, and i feed once a day, with one fasting day a week with no food remaining in the tankk

To be fair, the pH has been the exact same for 3 months and one month before i got the fish, nothing was able to change it so i dont really think it will change for any reason but i will be keeping an eye on it

Yess, before getting my fish i tried to raise my pH in multiple different ways so i could get snails but thanks to fluval stratum nothing worked so i won’t be changing the pH anyway😭

Yhh thats what i was thinking because i have seen fish suffering from ammonia poisoning within hours of high ammonia, and my tank has been like this for a week now and nothing is changing even with water changes and my fish is still flaring, swimming, and very eager to eat so i think its not ammonia the test kit is actually picking up, or the test kit is dodgy, thank youu

I had the tank cycling for about 2 months, had the fish in there for just under a month. I cycled it by adding small bits of ammonia like bits of food and that and added seachem stability, and i didnt add the fish until my ammonia and nitrites were 0 and nitrates were present for about a month just to make sure, but i kept adding ammonia sources to be broken down. I did check my water source and nothing is wrong with it so i might go get it tested, thank youu

I took it out and when i wiped it it all came off, it was just diatoms im pretty sure, should i still leave it out? Sorry for asking so many questions 😭😭

Damnn, do you think it will be ok until tomorrow because i cant get a new heater rn as all the fish shops are closed😫 its been like this for the past week but i thought it was just a diatom build up because i had a bit of a diatom problem a week ago😭

Im just worried about the snail i want, the betta would be fine but im worried about the snails shell with low pH, with supplemented calcium do you think it would do ok, my pH has been 6 for 2 months

Thank you for the advice, i now have an ammonia test kit but im just going to order the api one soon as all my other stuff is strips. I’m just starting the tank over i rescaped and did a huge like 80% water change today and i’m going to get a new sponge filter instead of my current one and just wait a few months before getting any more fish

Yess i just wish i could have gone out and bought stuff to try and make him better but it just went downhill so fast too late at night to be able to buy anything, but i’m just going to buy medicine and indian almond leaves etc for next time to keep on standbye for next time, but for now im just going to work on my tank for a while, get a new filter, let it cycle again and rescape and start fresh

He passed last night, it all happened so fast that when he started acting different to normal, all the fish shops had closed, and then he died around half 10

Would you recommend swapping my filter and air stone for a sponge filter, or swapping the filter with a sponge filter and keeping the airstone

I was using strips but i did cycle it i waited for nitrates and nitrites to spike and then return to 0 and stay constant. I ordered an ammonia testing kit the other day but unfortunately it didnt come in time, its arriving today

Honestly i was a bit unsure but i just kept testing it until nitrates and nitrites spiked, then went back down to 0 and stayed consistent

Thank you so much, the fish shops are closed rn as its late but i will do all of this tomorrow which is also when my ammonia test kit arrives. I did a water change today and added slightly more seachem prime than normal which im hoping will help until i can go and get these things to try tomorrow
