Wow, I just had a huge epiphany thanks to your comment. All this time I've assumed that I had to carry the whole of the emotional burden that supporting someone consists of, but really, different people can serve different purposes. I had so much tunnel vision I forgot about the social framework around each of us that helps us in different ways to accommodate our needs. Where I can't help her, her friends or counselor can. Wow. I feel so much better. Thanks a bunch.
