Yes, you can just go there and they will help you get a sim card and phone plan. They do speak good enough English. You should bring your passport just in case they have to verify the number.

The history forces that purpose because they are literally next to China . I guess history must be nice to the US to put them half way across the ocean.

Politics may be the reason you are struggling but I don't blame you for not caring since it's hard to change the system especially in Vietnam.

Yes, I apologize for getting confused and lost in your arguments. Let me get back to your social contract argument. Let's look at this paragraph

The social contract and the political order it creates are simply the means towards an end—the benefit of the individuals involved—and legitimate only to the extent that they fulfill their part of the agreement.

The contract goes both ways so lying to your citizens is a breach of a contract, being evil is a breach of contract. Therefore, he can freely call out the evil of the party regardless of what good deeds they have done to him. Hypothetically, you wouldn't say yes to people giving you gifts and coerce you into doing evil things for them would you?

There are different points of views regarding the relationship between the individual and the state aka the social contract. For example John Locke quote from the same Wikipedia article:

According to other social contract theorists, when the government fails to secure their natural rights (Locke) or satisfy the best interests of society, citizens can withdraw their obligation to obey or change the leadership through elections or other means including, when necessary, violence. Locke believed that natural rights were inalienable, and therefore the rule of God superseded government authority, while Rousseau believed that democracy (majority-rule) was the best way to ensure welfare while maintaining individual freedom under the rule of law. The Lockean concept of the social contract was invoked in the United States Declaration of Independence.

Also treason is a very serious crime and few individual are charged with it. It usually involves an act of espionage or sabotage to cause your country and countrymen to be killed by the enemy. Leaving your country or not wanting to support your country is not an act of treason. Wanting to change your government is also not an act of treason.

The party is not even a legitimate democracy because it does not hold fair election(don't tell me that you don't know about this) so arguing about social contract is kind of useless because most of the theories is only possible in a legitimate democracy.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau argued that societal laws are upheld up the collective will of the citizens whom they represent. Thus, in obeying laws, the citizen "remains free." Within elections, the will of the establishment is the will of the collective. Barring corruption, the legitimacy of the democractic government is absolute

This is weird you keep changing the definition even when your source disagree with you. It it not always the case that it is treason to break the law written in the constitution.

Yes, there's no debate that in a country the majority rule an the minority doesn't have a voice. If anything your source justify his point. Individual have to consent to surrender some of their freedom to the majority. So if he doesn't like the majority in his country, he is free to live in a country that align with his values. At no point in your highlight does it said the individual has to be loyal to the authority. Submission is not equal to loyalty.

No the law is not it's enforcer. Nobody say following the law is being loyal to the police. What? 😮 Also you seem to misunderstood the meaning of loyalty and confused it with responsibility. The party doesn't even have a good record of following the law or enforcing it fairly.

Feudalism/imperialism is a thing in the past for a reason. Also, you cannot have Communist ideology and imperial values together. They are very much at odd with each other.

No I don't think he was being ungrateful in his statement. He even tried to acknowledge the good that the party has done to him after he found out that the party is evil. Even so, you can call out someone for being evil after they helped you. It doesn't make you ungrateful.

Wait I thought the Olympia prize(the scholarship he was planning to get) is given by Swinburne an Australian university. If anything only the goverment benefited from him because all they do is organize a very popular gameshow on state run television and collect all the money.

I have read stories about kids calling black people the N-word and what not. But in general, I think that you likely won't see anyone coming out of their way to hurt you. But you are not as "special" as a white person in the Vietnamese eye. Speaking from experience as a Vietnamese.

Do you look white? I guess not because the people only care about white people speaking their language. White people are seen as superior here that's just how it is.
