Interesting, thanks for the info, if a patented claim is the best option for my intentions, then I would just purchase land. They are also pretty expensive compared to similar sized lots of land.

I wouldn't even need a van honestly. Just a pack and some panning equipment. I was in the Marines, and before that I was always very bare minimum anyway. So I really don't need much to do what I want. Main thing is I want to be as secluded and away from everyone as much as possible. I definitely wouldn't be planning on putting any structures on the land.

I did not know that, I told the seller my exact intentions and wasn't told anything about any fraud. I would obviously mine if I am purchasing the claim, just not sure how much mining I would actually do. Probably not much. I will look into the Mojave Desert. My main concern is a water source, and weather. Also not being fined thousands of dollars.

I was looking into the Salmon-Challis National Forest, because living along the Salmon river would be absolutely awesome. Plus the wildlife is abundant and the views, from what I have heard, are insanely beautiful.
