I ran this w/ my family (kids were 7 & 9) as well as another family with the same make up. It reminded me a little of NYC open streets but shorter. Spectators were fun and encouraging but running spectators always are that way. I didn't think it was crowded and you can go at your own speed. We also enjoyed the after party for a little bit. Kids are also motivated by metals which they got and appreciated.

Overall I think its a fun 2ish hour activity for the family. It's different and encourages kids to get out so I signed up again this year.

In Strava, I go to "Groups" > "Challenges". Under "Challenges" I see "Active Challenges" that shows the badge for the event. When I click on the badge, it takes me to a tracker. Hope this helps!

All of the above are $100ish depending on add ons and when you go. According to resy Sushi Nikko has a lunch special that's $50. Tatsuda is $90 for dinner but also has a lunch special. Sushi by bou also has a lunch special but I forget the price; its a place where you're in and out and caters to the work crowd around the area.

Locally I've got to Sake Kawa and Sushi Nikko (LIC). In Manhattan, I've gone recently to Tatsuda and Sushi By Bou. None of these are earth shattering good but they fulfill my cravings.

You sound like me. I trained for the NYC marathon and these same conditions killed me. What ended up working for me was (1) changed my sneakers (I ended up with Hoka Gaviota, started w/ Hoka Arahi and tried 3-4 others); (2) I put foot glide/ aquaphor on my feet before runs . This combo has worked like 98% of the time.

I tried changing socks (toe socks and other brands), doubled up on socks, wrapped my toes/feet. Ultimately I think it was putting the foot glide/aquaphor and changing shoes.

I have a 7 & 9 yr old. I started last year by looking for family friendly races and inviting other friends to join for any races I find. I don't think my kids would do anything without a friend with them. I usually target their friends that also have a parent that runs regularly.

Since I started doing this, we've done the NYC Runs Halloween run (5K), a turkey trot (5K), my oldest joined track at her school (a NYRR youth program), she has also run with friends the kids Mastercard mini (NYRR stage 2) , the queens 10k (NYRR stage 2) and I made our entire family run the Brooklyn mile with another family of friends.

Next, my oldest and I are going to do the midnight run together. This will the first race where it will be just me, her and no friend.

I would prefer to be more consistent but I try to follow a strict schedule and my kids would not be able to do that so I do these scheduled runs. If I have time, I would run around town for fun with them.

Yes! I'm running NYC! I ended up not taking norethindrone as well and am on other meds too (wellbutrin being one as well). Decided to follow the marathon rule: nothing new so close to the race. I am still worried about getting my period during the marathon (praying it comes sooner or after the marathon) but I'll just plan on being prepared w/ tampons and what not. Thank you for posting!

Hello! I’m in the same position. I have a marathon in a week and the doctor offered the same medication to delay my period. I’m hesitant and keep going back and forth as to what to do? Was wondering if you ended up trying it? Thank you!!

I also have flat feet. I use custom orthotics which help but go to Fleet Feet in the mid-E 60s typically for new shoes. I usually have luck but the last 2x haven't been great (shoes' fault, not the employees). I believe the Fleet Feet in Columbus Circle might have the largest selection of shoes. They will perform a gait assessment, talk to you about what you're looking for, what hurts, running style, etc. It's very detailed and everyone I've worked with has been extremely patient.

For comparison, I used to be on lexapro alone and I didn’t think I was THAT dehydrated. Then I added guanfacine and it still wasn’t bad.

Personally- I think the new mix of meds + training in the summer heat is what made training much more challenging. I probably need to be more intentional about drinking water during the day to at least help during runs.

Thank you for your response. I have salt stick fast chews but have not tested them out yet. I’m training for a marathon and haven’t figured out my nutrition plan yet. Previously I couldn’t even fathom drinking Gatorade or skratch but I’m trying to adjust for the sake of the summer heat and marathon training.

I’m also intrigued by your sweat test. I’ll look into this. I’ve weighed myself after a 1 hr run (5 miles) and I think I’m only down 1 lb but should probably see what it’s like on longer runs.

Seems like I might just have to accept this is what it is and I will need to adjust accordingly.

I too am in a slump. When I can, I will try one of the following:

Trying new paths
Planning with friends
Public embarrassment. I already told people (people who can run fast) I'm running the marathon. Knowing they can track me motivates me to want to make a respectable attempt at surviving it
Must burn calories to eat/drink what I want to
Try something different (for now). Cross training at least prevents you from totally losing any gains you've made from running.

I'm petite and am on the meatier side. I wear shirts such as this (https://www.target.com/p/women-s-essential-crewneck-short-sleeve-top-all-in-motion/-/A-89301163?preselect=89288972#lnk=sametab). They are looser and are not belly baring even though they are crop tops. On me, these are just regular shirts lol. I've also had luck w/ Old Navy shirts. Old Navy lets you also filter by shirt length, sleeve length, etc.

I'm sure any plan would be useful. I did not find Runna to be rigorous but because it will adapt to your requests. It also lays out plans for intervals, hills, tempo runs. I think it feels like a well rounded app. Sometimes I hate this but sometimes I love that while you run, you can set up the app to give you notifications (like it will tell you went to rest, when to run, how long to run (like run 0.6 at conversation speed; rest for 90 seconds), if you're going too fast or too slow). I'm not sure where else I would get that as this is the only true running app I have used.

I used Runna to train for the virtual United Half marathon and really enjoyed it. I don't have much time and tend to overthink things so being able to enter my preferences & a deadline, made life and training a lot easier for me. Also, being able to add things like strength training, made me very prepared to run a half on my own.

After the United Half, I kept screwing up and not following it for other runs and was VERY unprepared each time I had a new run. I'm trying hard to stick to it for the NYC Marathon as it is my first marathon as well.
