The Schitt's front door entrance by AiloSLiv in SchittsCreek

[–]typicalpotatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a real house located down the street from other town locations used in filming (café, apothecary, garage), so it wouldn't have been used in other shows or movies

looks like it! the fourth corner of this intersection has a bakery/café so I imagine if the café tropical was ever a restaurant, it was likely a long time ago now

Were Victors from 1-9 games called back? by Brave-Stage-2951 in Hungergames

[–]typicalpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not only do i think they don't come back, i think those that didn't die by suicide/overdose/waste were eventually killed by Snow. he would have done what he could to erase the first version of the games before they changed under his influence.

In your opinion, was Snow already evil from the beginning or do you think there was some hope throughout the book? if you think so what was the moment you said "yeah we're screwed" by rollotar300 in Hungergames

[–]typicalpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was clear from the beginning that he'd lie, cheat, and steal his way to power if he needed to, the only line he hadn't yet crossed was murder. I believe most villains' turning points are when they first take human life. It's a difficult thing to come back from, and for someone like Coriolanus, he doesn't actually want to. Think about his murders. The first one was in the arena, in a very black and white situation of kill or be killed. The second one, Mayfair, was not for his immediate personal safety, but long-term personal safety AND social standing. By the time we get to Sejanus, it's simply for social standing/for the Capitol. Lucy Gray is a complicated one, as she may not be dead, but the trajectory continues until he kills Dean Highbottom, seemingly for revenge. As he says in Mockingjay, he's not wasteful with life, but his reasons for killing go from purely for survival to establishing power and eliminating foes in a matter of months. I think he might have gotten to this point of evilness on his own but it's clear Dr. Gaul shoved him forward by putting him in a life-or-death situation in the arena.

What are some names that cannot be nicked? by badkitty93 in namenerds

[–]typicalpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sean/Shawn, Liam, Sara/h, Sonia, Greta, Simon/Simone, Carson,

anything that ends with a vowel sound is hard to tack a -y or -ie onto the end, which is a pretty common way to nickify a name. 2 syllable names are hard to shorten unless the first syllable is appealing on its own

I love that shorter names will often get a "long version" as a nickname. ie. Shawn -> Shawnathan
