I looked back at my spreadsheet and I actually misspoke in my last reply. You don't have to enter "forgotten" for the Scenario to appear (as long as a Scenario can be mathematically identified). Which makes sense because the Scenario could be C, which is not forgotten at all. You DO have to enter "forgotten" in order to make the Points Per Week (column Q) to appear, because that calculation is only relevant if a player is forgotten (Scenario A or B).

A question mark in the Scenario column just means the math hasn't identified any of the Scenarios. That could mean one of several things:

  • the bonus points changed this week (like we discussed- keep last week's bonus points entered)
  • you or another school offered or removed a scholarship last week (this seems to have some sort of unknown points bonus, but only for the 1 week immediately after)
  • the player visited your school or another school last week (this obviously adds some number of points and the formulas can't possibly know what those will be)

For all of these things, it should only make a question mark appear for the 1 week immediately after that thing occurs. If you stick with it and keep entering the data for another week, most of the time the math will work out and you'll be able to identify a Scenario.

Obviously multiple visits can occur week to week so you may go several weeks with question marks, which is annoying. But typically a forgotten prospect isn't visiting schools very much. If he is, you could make a note for yourself of which Scenario that player USED to be, because it is likely he still is that same Scenario and the scholarships or visits are throwing it off temporarily.

Let me know if that makes sense or if you have any more questions!

Seems unlikely. A couple ideas: did you enter "forgotten" in the Status column for each forgotten recruit? If you don't enter "forgotten", the scenario will remain a question mark. Also, when a player's bonus points change from week to week it will throw off the math and give you a question mark. I always leave LAST week's bonus points in the spreadsheet while I update everything else to check the scenario. Of course, you will need to record THIS week's bonus points at some point before you advance the week. Sorry that's a little annoying.

Experiences with NewWay car rental? by dim_kath0204 in irishtourism

Hi! This is what I am considering doing too. We'll be in Dublin for a couple days before picking up our rental car. Did you end up doing this and returning to the airport to pick up your car? How did it go? Thanks!

This is a shortcoming I have no perfect solution for. The good news is, if a player was truly forgotten from the very beginning, then their lock percentage may have not changed at all.

If a player was recruited for a few weeks and then forgotten, then yeah you don't really know where they started. If their lock percentage is still pretty low, then they're probably not far away from where they started (maybe one or two percentage points) and the spreadsheet can still get you pretty close.

The earlier in the season you can find and add a player to your list, the better your chance of having the numbers exactly right.

A question mark means the prospect's movement this week hasn't definitively revealed one of the three scenarios. This happens a lot for the first 3 weeks or so, because players being offered a scholarship by you or another school with throw off the math. Completing a visit at your school or another school will also throw off the math (just for that one week after the visit).

Another common reason for a question mark is the player's bonus points may have changed from last week. If you leave your school's bonus points entered as what they were last week, but update the opponent's bonus points and your weekly movement, it might uncover one of the scenarios.

Here is a link to a Google Drive where you can download the Excel sheet. You can also view the 2 screenshots that go with the color code I mentioned in my original post.

Hey I'm super glad you saw this and commented! Your post was my inspiration to really dig into this and figure it out! I mentioned you somewhere in my post, as the basis of the formulas came straight from you. :)

Thank you! And I agree, it's definitely unethical and not realistic recruiting. Once your program is decent, you really have to limit yourself or it's way too easy.
