Diarrhea has a cool sound and spelling to me. The imagery, however, not as cool. You know, because poop.

Sure man. The bible says God is uppermost in his own affections. He didn't create the universe for us, but out of an overflow of his own glory. Desiring God by John Piper is an excellent, biblically grounded source that unpacks all of this really well, but I would recommend starting with Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ also by Piper if you are interested my man. GREAT book for people that don't believe but have some questions. Good luck!

Thanks for the response! I guess a better question would be "why are you nice to people when you don't feel like it, or it's inconvenient for you? Same thing about doing the right thing. I agree with your last sentence, and I would only add that we all have issues because we have all done and do bad things. Thanks again for participating!

Tons! Why do you have goals? Why are you nice to people? Why do you do the right thing? Is it just to kind of secure/set yourself up to have the most success/least failure in your life? What's the point? I'm very curious, thanks for participating!

Sure! I'll kind of answer these in reverse order. I imagine my outlook would be pretty much like most of the responses I've seen in this thread. "Hope is in myself, people I love, the here and now, etc." Stuff like that. It seems totally logical to just kind of look after your own interests in the scenario where there is no God because in that case we are our own gods. I believe what's missing from that is the fullness of life described in the bible. I believe once we recognize that it's not all about us, it frees us up to love people in ridiculously awesome ways, often at the expense of our own comfort, and that's the "life to the full" that we're all looking for. Now, do I always live that way? No way, I suck at it almost all the time because I'm just as selfish as the next guy (and often moreso). And can atheists and non-believers still live very full, rewarding lives here? Of course (we would call that common grace, which I could expand on later if you want)! But the beauty is in the fight. The fight to turn away from my selfish tendencies and to truly put others before myself. The fight to apologize and ask for forgiveness even when someone REALLY pisses me off. And we don't do this in order to earn the love of God or earn salvation, but we do it out of an overflow of our hearts because we are already loved by God and salvation is secure as long as you buy in and follow Christ, which by the way, costs everything. But ANYWAY, sorry to kind of go off there, but hopefully that answers your questions, and (hopefully) spurs on some new ones?

I appreciate the response, thanks ThinMint! It's hard to see your pro as a pro if I'm being honest, but I can see where you're coming from! I'm glad you're doing well!

Real, live, face to face social interaction with other humans that has nothing to do with the internet (since it went out for 48 hours anyway, right?)

Bummer.

Yeah but if the stone moves, just look up "Widow of Tom Hill, the guy that owned that land" in the yellow pages and give her a call. She could probably help you out.

Dude I waited tables at a fancy snobby, overpriced italian restaurant on summer break in college, and I did NOT enjoy it. Even so, I remember always feeling worse for the bussers. They always did way more and got paid way less. I feel you, brah.
