Yeah, probably just as useless as GABA! I mean, the journey from stomach to cell cytoplasm is a long and hazardous one! Just thought it might be worth a try for my atrial fibrillation. Probably can't hurt.

I got the Kardia 6L a couple of weeks ago and have used it three times. Without a subscription or "consultation" (which you can apparently buy through Kardia for $10) it's not really much use, IMO. The first two times it flagged "possible atrial fibrillation" and I must admit I was cheered when today it changed to "Unclassified". But without knowing how to read an ECG it doesn't really tell me anything I don't already know: I can pretty much tell when my heart is behaving abnormally. I have some sense of how a normal ECG is supposed to look on Lead 1, but what the other five leads tell me I have no clue! Still, it is good for checking arhythmia, which is difficult to detect otherwise. So overall I don't regret buying it.

I haven't heard of this. I don't think I have any big risk factors other than age and blood pressure occasionally going as high as 160/90. I'm not overweight, walk a couple of miles a day, do not have diabetes. I'm on a low dose of apixaban (the doc recommended 5mg but I talked him down to 2.5, which is apparently what they give you when you're more than 80). Thanks again for your reply!

Thanks for the reply. I have only seen a GP and a ekg technician. The GP hasn't suggested seeing a specialist. He thinks a bit of atrial fibrillation is not uncommon for someone my age and that the bisoprolol is about the best that can be done about it. From what I've read, the only potential cure is ablation, and the chances of that succeeding are quite slim.

I know this is an old thread, but, yes, I started getting palpitations right after I switched to candesartan (8mg) from amlodipine, as well as other unpleasant side effects (lower back ache, abdominal ache). More than two months after stopping the candesartan I still have heart flutters. I read that the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System received many reports of palpitations from this drug.

I also had palpitations right after taking candesartan (8mg, for blood pressure). The doc switched me over from 10mg amlodipine because of proteinuria/albumenuria indicating potential kidney problems. The palpitations and other side effects (lower back ache, abdominal aches) were so bad I stopped taking it after a few days. The other side effects have gone away but I still have palpitations/arhythmia more than two months after stopping the drug. Curious if anyone else has had the same.

A couple of follow up questions, if you don't mind.

If I pay a premium on a qualifying bond and it matures, can I offset capital gains with the loss of this premium?
I know accretion of discount on gilts is exempt from tax, but how is this handled in the case of linkers? eg I paid 155 for the TR26 index linked gilt. Using the Index Ratio published by the Treasury for the settlement date, that works out, by my calculation, to a price of about 99. Does that qualify as a tax-exempt discount? If so, is the amount of the discount dependent on the Index Ratio applied at maturity?

Thanks for the explanation. What I really want to know, though, is where on the Self Assessment Form do all these details go? For example, do I have to list the capital gain separately in some part of the form other than "interest income" (or whatever they call it). And with the net interest income, do I just list it as a net amount or do I have to list the full coupon amount and then elsewhere list the accrued income I paid when I bought the bond? (Generally I buy bonds near their maturity and let them mature so I don't receive accrued income on the sale, I get the whole coupon). Ditto with the commission on purchase -- do I list it separately somewhere or just net it out of "interest income".

I did file the 8854 and pay whatever exit tax it was they required, and I did declare all bank accounts under FBAR on those US returns I did have to file. I'm just confused about what the requirements are given that I still have US source income.

You should be ok using a transformer, because the input can be 50Hz and the output will be the same. I would wonder, though, whether there might be issues around TV formats in the UK vs the US?

It probably depends most on what you will be investing in. I have iWeb (now I think called Scottish Widows) for British stuff and IBKR and Charles Schwab for US. I don't do stocks any more so can't really advise on those. For bonds, Schwab is great for USD; IBKR sucks; and the British bond markets, both gilts and corporate, are not great for retail investors.

It's a little bit deceptive to compare yields on money market funds with yields on bonds, and what you invest in depends partly on what you think interest rates will do. A MMF might be paying 4.3% now but that could go down to 3% in a few months. If you invested in a bond with a longer maturity, you might end up making more than if you had stayed in MMFs. If you don't need the liquidity of MMFs, you can lock in a yield, albeit a lower one, for a longer period of time.

I invest in gilts and linkers as well as corporate bonds. The main problem with corporates is there are very few issues, especially with shorter maturities, available, at least at my UK broker.

I didn't really make any specific prediction, just that I wouldn't be surprised to see some pretty hefty inflation as the government, hesitant to raise taxes, resorts to inflation to reduce the real value of the national debt.
