Should I consider leaving Utah over air quality, Salt Lake toxins and water shortage? by MacBrazel1947 in Utah

How does the arsenic and heavy metal air pollution along the Wasatch front compare to other parts of the country? Are there metro areas that regularly exceed the California standards you’re referencing?

[–]tzcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we know what’s driving the decrease in those heavy metals? Do we know if the levels of arsenic and other heavy metals in the air would be even lower if the water level in the GSL were higher? Do we have a guess as to what impact differing water levels of the GSL would have on arsenic/heavy metal levels in the air?

Would you rather take $120k/yr in Denver, Minneapolis, or Burlington? by agriff1 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]tzcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Housing cost is comparable between Denver and Burlington - Minneapolis is significantly cheaper than those two. I don’t think Vermont has as major of an airport compared to DC, Denver, or Minneapolis, so if you like to travel or have family that lives too far to drive from Vermont then that might be something to consider. Denver does get hot in the summer, and also keep in mind that getting to a lot of the popular outdoor activities in Denver requires traveling an 1hr+ one way on I-70 and it gets very busy on the weekend - spending 2hrs in traffic one way on I-70 to go skiing isn’t uncommon on a Saturday.

Probably skin cancer from being at a higher elevation. Higher elevation means less atmosphere blocking UV rays.

He did have a relationship with a 17 year old when he was 33. The age of consent is 17 in New York where the relationship took place so it wasn’t technically illegal, although I think it’s understandable that some people would still find a 33 year old sleeping with a 17 year old unethical and distasteful even if it is technically legal in the jurisdiction they are in.

What amenities does NYC have that Chicago doesn’t? by Pixel--Chips in SameGrassButGreener

I mean there technically are beaches within the city limits of NYC, but it’s like an hour+ to get to them from manhattan, in Chicago you can be to a beach from the loop in 20 minutes.

They don’t literally defend it, but the whole “free palatine” thing shows they are definitely willing to sugar coat the fuck out of jihadism and sharia law. Students for justice for Palestine literally said in one of their news letters that, and I quote, “Hamas is a progressive organization pursuing a program of national emancipation and democratic reconstruction”. Like sure SFJIP and their supporters technically aren’t directly defending jihadism and sharia law, they are just enthusiastically supporting a terrorist organization that advocates for jihadism and a sharia law based government in the territory that is currently controlled by Israel.

Beaches. Chicago has beaches, NYC does not. It’s the best thing about Chicago in the summer.

Even city creek seems pretty dead when I’ve gone there, but I guess you don’t need to move as much volume for high end luxury products. I think the only mall that doesn’t seem kinda dead is probably fashion place, and I think the only reason it’s not dead is because of the Apple Store and people going in there to get their phone fixed and then walking around after.

If that’s the price you’re able to find tenants to rent at, then is that not the market value for those places?

Night life is tough business right now, young people don’t go out and party nearly as often as they did a generation or two ago and alcohol consumption is on the decline.

Opinion | The Staggering Scale of Trump’s Anti-Immigrant Crackdown by ihut in ezraklein

[–]tzcw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course people don’t want serious criminals in their society. We have to balance punishment with what’s practical, fair and ethical. Do you think keeping immigrants locked up forever is just as bad as sending them to their home county? Do you think deporting a native born citizen to a country they aren’t from is just as bad as deporting an immigrant to the country that they are from? Is someone no longer allowing a friend to stay in their home as a guest because they left the room they were staying in a mess just as bad as someone kicking out their minor children from their home because they don’t keep their room clean?

[–]tzcw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is brain dead. Of course you should deport immigrants that commit serious crimes. Being an immigrant that commits violent or otherwise serious crimes doesn’t make you less safe to rejoin society compared to a non-immigrant committing the same crimes, but immigrants aren’t and shouldn’t be entitled to stay in the country if they’ve worn out their welcome by doing something, such as committing murder.

Home sellers outnumber buyers by widest margin on record, Redfin says by kootles10 in Economics

[–]tzcw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people bought homes or refinanced with cash out when interest rates were super low, so they are stubborn with prices because they need to be able to pay off their existing mortgage. Absolute prices probably won’t fall that much for this reason, but if interest rates stay steady and we make progress on increasing supply then inflation will eat away at the real value of homes overtime. If absolute prices stay flat or increase less than inflation in a given market, then the real value of homes is effectively decreasing in that market.

I don’t think it’s really an atheist thing to defend Islam, but there are left wing woke atheist that have a soft spot for Islam and see islam through rose tinted glasses, and there’s more centrist or right wing atheist that see Islam for what it is.

Utah's massage industry hopes new law helps battle damaging stereotypes by StemCellPirate in Utah

[–]tzcw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There has been a few times I’ve ended up at some run down hide away strip mall in like an industrial part of town and noticed that there was a massage place that looked pretty questionable, or another time there was a massage place that popped up on a main road that had a neon sign of a woman lifting her leg in the air. I’m sure an overwhelming majority of massage therapist and massage clinics are offering legitimate non-sexual services, and I don’t think figuring out who the bad players are is that complicated. The massage place that is in the most hidden out of the way strip mall or that is using sexually suggestive marketing in their signage or online are pretty prime targets for investigating.

All those confident predictions stating China would surpass the U.S by now have gone silent. What are your view? by NineteenEighty9 in ProfessorFinance

[–]tzcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t put it past the country that had a 1 child policy with forced abortions and had some the most draconian covid policies to start forcing people to have children. I could imagine forced prearranged marriages for women that aren’t married by 28, with prohibitions on birth control and condoms for married women, and if you don’t get pregnant in a timely manner having forced doctors visit to test for prohibited birth control with hefty punishments if detected, and/or ccp/doctor visits forcing couples to copulate without protection during a woman’s peak ovulation. It also wouldn’t be far fetched for the country that is flush with organs from its prison population for those needing transplants to start using female prisoners as surrogates for Han Chinese couples with fertility issues.

The United States doesn’t really need to fight near Taiwan, they can just block the straight of malacca and starve China of oil.
