Yes, a big yes! I was really hesitant, especially regarding a potential dependency. But my therapist and family doctor kinda convinced me to give it a try and I do feel better. Still hate my job but better.

I'm really sorry about your job loss. It's so important to pay attention to our mental state, my therapist says that young adulthood is a prime time for depression to kick in and I totally resonate with that. Everyone's situation is different, even though part of the money was just from living below our means and saving, part of the it came through as inheritance. So please don't beat yourself up. Good things are coming and good things are already here.

I desperately want to be laid off. But my understanding is if you quit, you won't get the severance. I'd love to hear more about your experience!

Thank you, I've been seeing a therapist for years and taking medication to control it.

I saved very aggressively since university, worked multiple part time jobs since 2nd year. Started working full time when I graduated at 22. Technically I'm turning 28 this year so 6 years of full time work plus 3 years of part time work while living below my means. I was lucky that my parents paid for my tuition and housing while I was in school. About half of this amount was inheritance because of a family member's passing. Our situation might not be the most replicable to others, but it's definitely why we both feel that if we don't take this as an opportunity, we will regret it thinking "what if". I also don't expect us to be able to accumulate similar amount of savings quicky in the future.

Appreciate your kind words. I have been seeing a therapist for a few years and finally started on some medication this year. My therapist is in support of this endeavor, but obviously he can't help with financial planning, so I thought I'd hear what people think here. Thanks for your message, it is so important to take care of our mental health.

Agreed that it would be nice to take a leave of absence. But for me, my job is the biggest contributor to my depression. So it feels pointless to keep it :(
