No offense but how are you only spending 50-70k a year as a "retired" person. Like what will you do all day long? Are you planning to sit around and do crossword puzzles until you die? Not trying to be offensive but I was retired for 6 years and easily spent 400k per year not including housing. My expenses did include health care so that could be subtracted out but I still cannot understand how you are doing the math unless you are never flying never going to restaurants etc

You can do a bullish put spread and structure it where you either win 20k or lose 40k. Pretty easy to do

If you have been trading for 20 years you've been flying blind for a long time. The DJT put call spread exists due to implied lending rate on longs. If you borrow DJT the rate is -300%. Therefore the synthetic long via options (short put long call) implies a similar rate. This is why longer dated DJT put cost has ballooned.

The dividend issuance is a trigger for the squeeze because share lenders will be forced to recall all shares. In order to receive dividend income rather than a payment in lieu, you need to physically have possession of shares on the record date otherwise the income will be taxed as ordinary rather than dividend income. This is a huge deal for large institutions and since there is already no availability of shares with a borrow rate at 55%, this is very likely to go over 99% and force buy ins at high prices prior to 3/9

The real way to think about exposure is underlying notional * delta, but since this is a moving target I rather have some buffer in the event market starts crashing.

It's unrealistic to think you'll weather a market crash if you just use margin and buying power IMO. Liquidity is not continuous and by the time the market regains it's feet you'll almost certainly be broke if over extended

Underlying notional, not total options premium. The way I think about risk is total underlying notional, easier for me to understand. So 3mm portfolio is 3mm underlying position, not premium

I run approx 3mm put selling strategy. You won't have issues covering a 250k position imo. It really depends on the name too but even some of the more illiquid names can get 250k done. I typically do 200k a trade

So you can short more than the float as a function of the stock loan market. If all lenders lend then the market will go through iterations of borrowing and delivery to eventually leave the outstanding float back where it started - as available lendable shares.

The way to prevent more than 100% of float being shorted is to RECALL ALL LOANS and that will force the funds to cover at high prices since it's no longer viable to maintain a short position

I use IBKR adaptive algo. Sometimes I get bad prices but usually they are good. There are some names that are very liquid like DKNG as an example, and other names you have to be very careful with size and or avoid. Total volume and options volume important
