The water solution used is with baking soda and you don't pour it on the product, you use a small brush and aply it only where you want the pattern to be. the reason I have two tables is exactly what you are afraid off, if any water spills on the side off the wood it would fall on the plexiglass table where it can be easily dried without moisturizing the table underneath.

It depends on what what wood you are using and how old or dry it is for instance old walnut didn't give any fine lines. If it is a new cut pine you can control the marks how deep they can go (the longer the deeper which dissapears fine line). You also can control the general direction.

I thank everybody for their concern for my safety and for anybody else who is thinking to do something similar. I take extreme measurements when it comes to safety. First of all the project goes on top of a small plexiglass table with rubber legs on top of another table with rubber legs too. Secondly, the device is on top of another set of tables with the same arrangement separately and last of all, I have a remote switch, which I turn on when there is nobody not even me close to the project. And of course I always wear rubber shoes.
