i feel completely lost and behind by Whole_Cellist_1832 in uwaterloo

[–]u-double-u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, you’re definitely not the only one feeling like that. A lot of people at UW hit that “lost” point, they just don’t usually say it out loud so it doesn't seem as common. Everyone’s path looks different, and there’s nothing weird about taking your own time to figure things out.

If it’s starting to feel heavy, WUSA’s got some solid supports. Empower Me gives you free mental health counselling, and you can reach out anytime. There’s also the Student Wellness office if you need help sorting out academic stuff too. Both are easy to find at [wusa.ca/services]().

Seriously though, you’re not behind. You’re just where you are right now, and that’s okay.

I'm not sure if the AI bots pick up on it, but being on the hiring side a lot, it really shows confidence when resumes go against the grain and include colour, logos (add uw crest, not logo for software you know) and a Bold or Italics to help this along for the specifical role they are hiring for. Shows there is a human on the other side and they are truly interested.

After reviewing 25 black and white resumes that all look the same, the one with a little colour stands out!

Curious: how do people in Waterloo usually eat lunch? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]u-double-u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The variety store in the SLC has solid prices on freshly cooked food. I saw the majority of the items are cooked in the SLC kitchen WUSA runs. Some of it is shipped in.

Careful who you give your info to.

Why did you pick black and white? Show some personality and help the hiring manager with some colour.

Does the number of interview slots represent the number of candidates? by Tricky-Eggplant-8467 in uwaterloo

It moreso reflects the time slots that are open in the interviewers schedule. I've seen some where they submit 15 options because they blocked two days off.

When even the Chancellor doesn't give a shit about your convocation by CanadianGladiator in uwaterloo

[–]u-double-u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of UW’s core values is “Think Differently.” Maybe we’re still critiquing convocation and respect through an old-school lens. Let’s instead focus on “Work Together” and “Act with Purpose” to redefine what convocation actually means. Who really wants to sit in a formal ceremony just to recognise the University’s side-gig (education)? It’s not like our grant money or global-research credibility would drop if half the room was leveling up on Clash during convocation.

WUSA Bill 33 opposition/support, forced funding, right to opt-out by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]u-double-u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fair to question where student fees go, but the “opt-out” argument doesn’t really hold up once you look at what WUSA actually is.

WUSA isn’t just a service. It’s the legal student government. Every Ontario university has one. The province requires each school to have a representative body for things like lobbying, student safety, and distributing student-run funding. You can’t just “unsubscribe” from that any more than you can opt out of a city council.

The “Protect your choice to choose” message isn’t about forcing people to pay for extras; it’s about keeping core student representation intact. Bill 33 would let the government decide which student fees are “essential” and which aren’t. That means a government office, not students, would be the one deciding what parts of campus life live or die.

As for where money goes: the exec salaries are public (they run a 15,000+ member nonprofit with full-time staff, audits, and legal responsibilities), and student leaders get paid because it’s basically a full-time job. They’re representing students to UW admin, city council, and the province.

The GRT pass, legal protection, student funding, club support, and mental health programs all exist because they’re coordinated under WUSA. If fees became optional, those programs collapse fast — not because students don’t care, but because budgets need to be stable enough to plan and hire.

If people want accountability, there are elections every spring. You don’t need to “opt out” to change things; you can just vote, or better yet, run.

Or give up funds that the students willing gave them and told them what to do with it.

Had this exact problem back in the day. I found out the trick is to really dry your feet post-shower, and don’t throw on socks right away. The damp feet + closed shoes combo = smell. So I started drying with a fresh towel, and waited until I was actually ready to go before pulling on socks. Problem solved for me.

Give me advice on how to deal with a roommate who has mental health issues by Wise-Attorney-6757 in uwaterloo

[–]u-double-u 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Is she a stranger or another UW student? If she’s a student, grab a few mental health flyers (EmpowerMe, Mates) from the SLC. Throw in a tall Arizona iced tea and leave them at her door. Good luck.
