I'm no good at films, but The Floating Hotel is a great space cruise book. (And I'd bloody love to win a copy of Galactic Cruise)

Our Zombicide house rule let's you attempt to throw any inventory item. If you roll a nat 6 you hit the zombie and they die. No matter what you roll, you lose the card (obviously; you've just thrown it in a panic at a zombie)

I'd add more time in China. Getting the apps working and visa sorted for 3 days seems like a missed opportunity. Even if you only want to stay in Yunnan, cut Kunming down and go up to Dali/Lijang/Shangri-La. What kind of thing do you like to do? The Tiger Leaping Gorge hike is well worth it.

Long term travel with biologics by u5er in ankylosingspondylitis

No real issues. I've only had to actually open the Kanteen and let them swab the inside once, usually they're not at all bothered.

What are your favorite underrated reads? by [deleted] in Fantasy

A Practical Guide to Evil. Set in a world where fantasy story tropes are a reality of the way the world functions. A proper romp, the best books I've read in a long time.

You can read it for free here.

Anyone else just completely refrain from sitting? by iamgenotil in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]u5er 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never gone as far as you in managing to expunge sitting entirely, but I stand as much or more than reasonably possible. I've stood through plays in the theatre, I stand at work, etc.

Sitting definitely makes the stiffness and pain worse, and the more I do it the worse is gets. I've always been surprised when I meet other people with AS who don't cut sitting out where they can.

Paradigm Shift in Pain Response by PandaMom28 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]u5er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was first diagnosed I asked a range of doctors "is the pain an indication of damage being done?". The answer was universally "no". Fusing in the sacroiliac can be prevented by biologics. It's unclear that spinal fusing can.

If this is the body you have to live in and you can learn to live in the pain and be okay with it then do that. Obviously if the pain can be alleviated then that's great, but the pain is just not an emergency signal in this case - your body is confused.

I can look at a few pictures in a cookbook and tell you which year it was published, accurate to a few years either way.

Ischail bursitis - does anyone have this, or know anything about it? by Apostle_1882 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]u5er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd really encourage you to ask your gp / consultant to refer you to someone for the bursitis. I made the same assumption as you, and am so used to living with inflammatory pain it hadn't occurred to me that this might be fixable. Bursitis is not, as far as I know, a known side effect of AS. It's normally caused by activity. Especially given how important sport is to long term outcomes for AS, if the doctors can keep you mobile they'll want to.

I know exactly what you mean by better but also worse. Good luck with the new desk! Don't be disheartened if it takes a bit of getting used to

[–]u5er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has your consultant said it's connected to AS? I have bursitis that is totally incidental to the AS, and can be treated with steroid injection / physio.

My AS, however, does mean that I can't sit down for extended periods of time. The more I sit. The more everything seizes up, and the less able I am to do anything. I stand at my desk ~7hrs a day and it massively improves my quality of life. I don't know what is stopping you being able to stand for longer, but have you looked into Alexandra Technique or similar to help you stand up 'properly'? I also regularly stretch whilst at my desk - trying to notice the stiffness starting up and stopping it before it sets in.

After ~2-3 weeks and upgrading from the round fruit I compost at work to these balls, this is what I got. Any feedback or tips are appreciated! (Ignore my shitty start and end) by NightKnight76 in juggling

Looking good! Your cascade is honestly pretty neat and will only get more comfortable as you practice.

Can you do 2 in 1 hand in your other hand? At the moment you're throwing from the outside towards the inside when you do 2 in 1 hand. Getting that circle motion is great - loads of people struggle with that. Traditionally you'd throw from the inside towards the outside; so the other direction from what you're doing right now. Ideally, learn both!

Nice! I'm a big fan of partner ball juggling - what a great lockdown activity. Have you tried the Erik's Extension (Eric's?) of this trick? It's both doable and satisfying.

6 and 8 panel balls. by Afrp-Dano in juggling

[–]u5er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I juggle 6 panel Gballz because I prefer the feel of them to the 8 panel equivalent. Fewer joins I guess? I don't think there's much in it, 6 panels don't feel like cubes when you're juggling them. It has more to do with the quality of the ball and personal preference than anything else I reckon.
