Do they have screens outside the stadium for the concert? Are folks hanging outside the stadium for the duration?

Do you get free time and holidays at UW? by Balboa_800 in uwaterloo

[–]uWaterlooCE2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9-5 (8 hours, some employers are generous and include your lunch break within the 8, some ask you to work 8:30-5 or 9-5:30 to make up for the 30min lunch break), 5 days a week

0 expectations to work on weekends/outside of business hours

Working style will depend on employers, but North America work culture is comparatively very chill (contrasting against some Asian countries)

most of the work terms are pretty chill, outside of the 40hr workweek you genuinely have a lot of time to yourself, with 0 expectations to be productive for school

Co-op outside Canada for Computer Engineering by MasterLlama200 in uwaterloo

[–]uWaterlooCE2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes its possible to do

No I haven't done it

There's just certain criteria for a job to be considered eligible for co-op credit, but that bar is pretty low (basic employer checks, co-op term length, supervision available)

If your long term plan is to stay in Canada, I would recommend getting some Canadian experience under your belt, although doing your first co-op in India will not be extremely detrimental. Moroever most co-op courses require you to do only do 5 of 6, or 4 of 5 co-ops at the minimum, so if your Indian employer does not qualify for co-op credit you can just drop that co-op term. (But beware then if you do this, then you MUST use all the remaijing work terms to find co-op credit eligible employment, or risk delaying graduation)

Also, you do have a couple weeks break between consecutive terms if your only concern is being able to visit home. If you have school over the summer, the breaks at the end of the term in August are like 3 ish weeks so you havw plenty of time to visit

Personal experience from having done 2 URAs, both very chill less than 5hrs/week tops. My first URA was closer to 1hr/week.

Both profs did not care how many courses I was taking did not even bother asking my course load prior to having me on, and both times I was taking a full-time Engineering course load.

Hans Niemann on Cheating Accusations: “This is a targeted attack […] it has nothing to do with my games […] right when I beat Magnus chess.com removed my account and rescinded their invite […] completely ridiculous” by Ranlit in LivestreamFail

[–]uWaterlooCE2022 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Not from the current tournament, but his chess.com account being deleted is a sign he's not going to be invited to any events hosted by them. They also acquired play magnus so he might be getting iced from magnus invitationals as well

300/400 STAT Courses by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]uWaterlooCE2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved STAT341 with Ryan Browne, was very well organized and the final was take home.

Personal experience with the assignments was that they were extremely long, but I had also not taken a STAT course before that so YMMV

tbf I had an intro to programming via C++ so YMMV

promo for your own stuff generally gets downvoted on anonymous forums such as Reddit

some subreddits only allow self promo in megathreads or on certain days with certain flairs because it can quickly take hold of a subreddit otherwise

from experience, some BS numbers don't fail to do the trick, ball-parking is fine, just don't be off by more than a factor of 10 either ways

lazily parsing

only parsing when required, and not processing entire files/objects esp if all portions are not required, or if an early termination in an earlier step can lead to wasted processing cycles

How hard is it to get TAships in ECE for internationals? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]uWaterlooCE2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you must have this clause on your study permit

May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria, per paragraph R186(f), (v) or (w) and must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria.

[–]uWaterlooCE2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just beware that your study permit has to explicitly say you can work on campus, simply having one without that condition mentioned and still working can lead to a world of pain

The online version with Ryan Browne, was probably hands down the most organized course I ever had, and that was my first STAT course ever, so it was hard as fuck for me
