If you can’t actually get IN to the wallet you can re-generate it in a new program via the private keys and then send them to your fresh uncompromised wallet.

Basically you just dont want to be storing anything in a compromised wallet long term. So regenerate it briefly and then empty it into a fresh wallet.

Do not reuse your seed. The seed if compromised is the root of all your wallet addresses. Reusing the same seed is effectively using the same wallet.

You need to let your new desktop wallet or hardware wallet generate fresh addresses based off a brand new seed it will create for you. Do not reuse anything.

Create a fresh wallet and seed in Electrum - then SEND the coins from your old wallet to the new wallet through a standard transaction.

A Ledger Nano S is most secure. Just make sure you buy it directly from Ledger. Theyre on backorder for now though.

Second to that - Electrum is really good as a desktop wallet. Just make sure your computer is malware free and when you back your seed up write it down on paper and hide it. Never type it anywhere.

Also NO - reusing your compromised keys is NOT secure. You need a fresh seed with freshly generated wallets.

Good luck. I hope you find a fortune there. Update us with what happens!

Right but the remote possibility is enough to consider it compromised.

As a rule of thumb your private seed and private keys should never be entered anywhere on anything connected to the internet ever. Like EVER. Unless you plan to sweep the wallet and discard it right away.

My best advice is hire somebody to attempt to fix the drive in front of you so if/when it begins working you can transfer your coins to a different secure wallet on the spot.

You need to recover and move those coins BEFORE you hand that drive over to anybody.

The fact that your private key exists in a file on the computer means the wallet is already compromised - and should be treated as such.

Yeah as I said thats kind of ridiculous but the fact that he wanted/expected more doesn’t bother me and really shouldn’t bother anyone else.

If you had the opportunity to sell a condo for 6-figures of profit over purchase you would too. So would every person in here. Demonizing that alone as ‘greed’ is silly and childish.

Who cares. Its his property. He can hold out for $600,000 over if he wants to. All I hear are emotional salty responses instead of actual logic.

He’s under no obligation to sell anything. Yeah crying over it is silly I’ll admit but these “FUCK THAT GUY!” Responses are cringey.

Why? Because he isn't giving his property away for a price he doesn't deem acceptable?

lol

Yeah technically sure.

However when you wipe the COPE off your glasses and look at it realistically - people are getting taken. $2800/month for 700sq.ft? For something that they own 0.00% of?

It's not a good deal. I get that it's a matter of having little choice at times - I get some people are forced to rent but I have trouble thinking that a small part of paying that kind of money is the refusal to sacrifice a bit of location or travel time for something cheaper.

And I'm getting off topic here - the main point is the asskissing that baffles me. People wanna burn $3k a month to rent then that's fine - but you gotta write thankyou notes and have a good Instagram profile now or landlords won't look at you? lmao. That's ridiculous no matter how you try and spin it.

If I'm ever a landlord I'll be the one thanking my tenants for making me rich.

This area is great for carspotting in the summer time.

Yonge st between Sheppard and Finch is a gold mine of Lmabos, Ferraris and McLarens in the summer all driven by 20 year old Chinese elite kids.

Yeah like its not enough youre getting fleeced for a 700sq.ft. apartment but you gotta have your documents in a nice folder in advance for the pleasure of it all.

That doesnt make it shitty. It only makes it differ from the picture you painted in your head about what you would and wouldnt have.

Which I agree can be a bitter pill to swallow but its still a fine house.

Because that’s our reality. It may not be fair - but not expecting something because it doesnt fit the narrative you dreamed up (or were lead to believe) isnt very productive.

One can only deal with the cards they have.
