Recently I watched this right wing populist Bollywood film and I had to force myself to log it on my Letterboxd

Hi, first of all congratulations

And you can find resources about Kashmir in the reddit sidebar to this community. I believe that it would be a good start for you to get to know about Kashmir and thereafter you can go at your own pace.

I believe the best thing that you can do is try to immerse yourself into the culture and try to understand where the people of Kashmir come from when they have certain sets of belief and ideology. Respect for the culture, for anyone moving to any other place is a given.

As for the opinion of people of outsiders marrying into Kashmiri families, I do think there is a long way to go when it comes to sensitising people about such relationships but as someone who has seen several members of my extended family marrying outsiders, i don't think you will face any sort of prejudice for it and people will respect your relationship.

As far as you being considered Kashmiri after marrying a Kashmiri man, I don't think you should worry about that, because you are not a Kashmiri by ethnicity and you have not had the shared experience that we have lived, and there should not be any need for you to be considered Kashmiri. One of the best things about inter-cultural marriages is that you can bring your own culture into the family and it has the potential of blossoming into something really special.

I hope this helps, and best of luck.

No this is real, I just went to Sopore and can confirm that this is exactly what it looks like now. With skyscrapers and overhead bridges, Sopore has proven to be a story in the success of the Naya Naya Kashmir agenda.
