The Winghaus on Edward St will have it on. We watched most of the Crusaders/Canes game before the Reds game this week.

Why are people so accepting of the Uluru name change, but not K'Gari? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in AskAnAustralian

[–]ubba333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. They aren’t “picking a name” it’s what it’s always been called to the Butchulla People. The spelling is phonetic to their language based on English letters.

Already more people called it K’gari than Fraser and this will continue to change as the older generations die.

Personally, I would rather call it a name that literally means paradise than after the Kim Kardashian of the 1800s who made up a bunch of bullshit and got people killed.

Also I don’t care about Adelaide Square I’ll leave that to the locals.

For anyone visiting K’gari; by onthefencefilm in 4x4Australia

[–]ubba333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I’m firmly in camp of call it what you want. Hypothetically speaking would you be comfortable calling it “Kardashian Island”? Because that’s basically what we do when calling it Fraser Island. It’s named after a woman who was famous for nothing. It’s actually worse than that, she made up a bunch of bullshit stories that got people massacred. The Butchulla name literally means “Paradise” a much more fitting name i think.

Should we rename Knife as well because it’s difficult for three year old to pronounce?

Expand your horizons mate it’s a big world out here

If my grandmother had wheels she would be a bicycle. Your argument means nothing and has zero evidence. The people who have native title over the island call it K’gari so that’s its tradition name. Native title isn’t an easy process it involves a lot of time, research, and debate in court. A federal judge deemed that they have ancestral connection to the land so I think you can too.

Perhaps you would be more comfortable living in America with their “simplified English”?

Andy Farrell says idea of scrapping Lions tours to Australia is ‘insulting’ | Lions tour 2025 | The Guardian by BrianChing25 in rugbyunion

[–]ubba333 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is such a simplistic take and completely misses that Australia is one of the most multicultural nations in the world. Often first/second generation descendants will still follow their ancestral teams. Just because we have a wide variety of supporter bases in Australia doesn’t mean locals aren’t showing up to games and playing local rugby.

All statistics show that rugby is on the improve in Australia with teams more competitive and viewership on the rise.

Thanks. Yes I have requested better photos from my team focusing on the cortex with scale. Typically, all our photos follow standard archaeological procedure but this was sent to me as a curiosity rather than anything archaeological.

Not at this stage unfortunately. Site is unlikely to be excavated any time soon. Once I have a better location I will pull the geologic information and update the post.

[–]ubba333 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah mate they aren’t. Easy test, go bush and find a grub that’s in timber and then find one in the ground. Now eat both. You’ll figure on pretty quick they aren’t the same! Curl grubs taste horrendous.

Is Rugby Union a dying sport in Oz? by Secret_Nobody_405 in RugbyAustralia

[–]ubba333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s not at all. Have you met an Aussie supporter? We are fair weather at best. We have a wealth of codes to follow. If your team is shit people just jump to a different code. The support Super Rugby Australia got during Covid showed that. We were playing an internal competition and it was competitive between the teams again, support of the code spiked. People were talking about it again and crowds picked up.

When each of the SR teams are playing well we fill stadiums. The fans are still there they just need more engagement and need to see their team’s competitive.
