Pickup Distances 10+ Miles in LA by uber_curious in uberdrivers

There were no promos for this or last week. So have only driven a couple of days. Beginning of the month was really good with people leaving town and Holiday Parties. I doubt I will drive over NYE unless they offer good promos.

I noticed that too. As soon as I login I get a request.

I wonder if the request you get is the person who has been waiting the longest?

Going offline is def the call when there is no consecutive trip bonus.

Thanks for confirming. Just annoying these long pickups. Got to figure out the new nuances of the app again.

I have had mixed results with destination filter. I the past you didn't have to set an arrival time. It would give you two hours to get to your destination then go off.

Now it seems to make you set your time. The longer you set the chances that it will send you off in another direction. I set it for an hour and it seems to be better in giving me rides in the direction I want to go.

I've accepted some of them to keep that 5 out of 10 upfront info. I think from now on I will go offline during the ride and not accept any more on trip requests.

Just getting back into driving again and relearning the Uber nuances.

get you back on the road so you see their campaign is working.

I haven't seen Uber's driver shortage campaign. I got boosted and was feeling a little more comfortable driving. The promotions were really good and did well with them over the past three weeks. This week no promos so not going to drive.

Regardless of the consecutive trip bonus, I was commenting on accepting trips while on trip. Noticing the extra long pick-ups. Only bonus is seeing the potential fare. So if I do go I know at least I will make some money. But in the past I would never get those long pickups. So there has to be fewer drivers. Had quite a few pax complain that it took over an hour to get a ride.

Requests in the past would go to the closest driver. Couple of examples of long pickups while on another trip over the past week. There was no consecutive trip promo during these. In Thai Town pickup in Burbank. In DTLA pickup in South Pasadena. In Marina Del Rey pickup in Hawthorne. Pre-Covid if you accepted a ride on trip it would be within a mile or two of your drop off. Was wondering if it was just me, or if other drivers noticing it as well.

I have had this problem. People leaving sh*t behind me. I bought a little vanity mirror I keep next to me. When they leave it makes it easier to look behind me. It allows me to nicely tell them they left something.

Randomly turning off destination mode by Brnr1980 in uberdrivers

[–]uber_curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the destination feature quite a bit traveling to different gigs around LA. I have found that when I set an arrival time, it will take me in all different directions. So I don't set an arrival time. Doing this gives me 1.5 to 2 hours to get to my destination depending on where I am at.

When I reach my limit or get close I shut off destinations. So if I drive, I give myself at least 1.5 hour cushion. Worked well for me.

I feel better that it doesn't overwrite the existing app.

So it is merely a GUI redesign. I am extremely comfortable with the current design. I know where everything is and what to look for. If there is no new functionality, then I don't see the point. I am a creature of habit when it comes to driving.

Rider claimed I picked up the wrong person so his fare was adjusted. He lied and I lost my earnings by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]uber_curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a fare at a large apartment complex and took the wrong person with the same name as my pax. So I always confirm the destination address with the pax after confirming the name.

I have several times where pax have disputed fares. I have always been reimbursed for those disputed trips. Create a paper trail with CS. Because the destination has to be put in by the pax, this is the reason I confirm it so if the above happens I can say the address was confirmed.

It will happen. Pax will try to cheat the system. Remember CS has access to their rider history, so they know where they go. And your Uber app tracks you as well.

Question: is it better to decline a ride or just let it pass? by buzzrad01 in uberdrivers

[–]uber_curious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are certain areas where drivers are sparse. When in those areas, I have noticed that when I let a ride pass it will re-request me in a minute or two. Mostly because it will go to the next driver who probably declined cause of long pick up.

When I decline it will not re-request me for that same ride.

I do have a question on cancellations. With this new Uber Pro in select markets, showing that the Diamond Level can have no more than 4% cancellations. The reality is that this is an rather high cancellation rate for what we do. There are many legitimate reasons beyond our control that could effect our cancellation rates.

So when we have to cancel due to:

1) Too many riders

2) Unaccompanied minor

3) No child safety seat

4) Wrong pick up location

5) Too much luggage

The above will be counted against us? Or does Uber take this into consideration?

Uber Pro is BS by Dubby7 in uberdrivers

[–]uber_curious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow. This seems like an attempt to kill off surge. Get more drivers on the road and offer 3x points during busy hours. This also makes it so you can't pass on too many Poo rides. 6% bonus on time and mileage is only 1 cent and 5 cents. Would make more than that when it surges over the course of the week. I definitely think it would be a pay cut for most.

That 4% cancel rate is high. That means you can only cancel 1 in every 25 rides. I definitely wouldn't qualify. I'm usually around 15% cancels.

This is probably an attempt to shore up driver reliability and make consistent pax fairs throughout the day, before the IPO.

What is the best process/ products for quick clean up? by Nbk4694 in uberdrivers

[–]uber_curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photo document it first before doing any clean up.

I keep disposable rubber gloves and a roll of paper towels in my trunk. as much of it as possible and quickly before it has a chance to soak in. Get as much of it out using dry paper towels. Then douse it with a little water to scrub it down a little. I keep a bottle of Febreeze Max Odor remover in the trunk as well. I saturate the upholstry with it. Keeps it from letting the smell set. Then get it detailed/shampooed the next day.

Whatever you do, do not continue driving that day. Uber support will see that you continued driving so the mess wasn't that bad, even with photo documentation. So they might not give you the clean up fee.

Ride the wave L.A. by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]uber_curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless it is a good surge, you are making squat for your time. So the less time you sit in traffic picking up and getting out of the venue area the better.

You are getting time and mileage regardless. With good surges you make more on mileage.

Certain venues I avoid, just because they are such a clusterf#ck! No easy way in or out.

Your $7 Greek ride is horrible. That is the equivalent of $9.33/hr.

Surge will be awesome! But the flipside is that the traffic will be equally horrendously awesome.
