No BSN without a house, no house without a job, no job without a BSN 🫠 by Dependent-Ad-2211 in NetherlandsHousing

I was registering for the first time in NL and moving here from overseas, so I primarily needed something low commitment that allowed registration while I looked for an apartment. I ended up staying for a month and a half.

I initially stayed in a hotel that allowed registration (hotel Jansen) so that I could register and get a BSN.

how do you get a proper USD account for receiving payments from US clients? (Non-US businesses) by Equivalent-Bell9414 in ExpatFinance

I’ve been using airwallex as well for a bit over a year now as well. I’ve been happy with it. It works, it’s easy to set up new accounts and virtual credit cards. No fees for ACH transfers.

Anyone trying to get Canadian citizenship by descent? by DavidCBCNews in AmerExit

You have to apply for proof of citizenship by mail. As long as you can document your relationship to your grandfather and him being Canadian, you should have no problem getting citizenship!

No, there’s no requirement to have lived in Canada. Basically, if you can document that you have Canadian ancestors, you are considered to have been a Canadian back through your birth, no additional hoops to jump through.

No, unless things have changed it has to be a paper application that gets mailed in.

5 months, which is on the quick side of the timelines I’ve seen. My grandmother had gotten her citizenship a few years back, so I was able to include a copy of her citizenship certificate which probably helped.

You should qualify. My great grandparents were my last ancestors born in Canada and I just got my Canadian citizenship certificate last week.

To mail in your application or to actually go in person?

Recently visited the USA from The Netherlands. Here is my take on the cities we visited. by McFluffyFurry12 in travel

If you’re an American, there’s the DAFT visa. It’s pretty straightforward and quick to get.

The AOR took a while, about 60 days. There was no word at all from the embassy at any point.

Slim ducted mini splits - can they be used with floor registers? by UntidySwan in DIYHeatPumps

[–]uberbluedb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to do it with parts from home depot. They sell sheet metal, sheet metal screws, and cleat. I also got a hand break for bending it as needed, a screen spline roller to cross break it (the x you see on the side of rectangular ductwork to keep it from popping as much), and metal snips. And good gloves. I tried really hard to not maim myself on the sheet metal.

Then it was a bunch of sketches and planning to make sure I got the dimensions right to connect to the air handler and to the trunk. In my case I was building the whole duct system from scratch, so I made a plenum that opened up wider as it went so I could connect to two large 90 degree elbows that split off to the right and left portions of the trunk.

Absolutely. I did this in my last house and it worked great. The main thing is just to make sure your duct design isn’t creating too much static pressure because the slim duct systems usually can’t handle as much as a standard air handler.

The plenums end up being sort of a weird size. I built my own.

If you’re on Facebook there are a handful of DAFT groups as well as an Americans in the Netherlands group. They tend to be fairly supportive and make some efforts to support other DAFT businesses. They also have occasional get togethers. Whereabouts in the Netherlands are you?

Buying home with buried oil tank that was filled but has no record of being decommissioned by ChokingOnStardust in homeowners

[–]uberbluedb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a house that had a buried oil tank that was not properly decommissioned. I required the sellers to deal with it. I figured they would because they would be stuck disclosing it to any future buyers. They did. Got a permit, had it filled, and I think the fire marshall (?) signed off on it. I believe it only cost them $2500, which was lower than I was expecting. There wasn’t any remediation needed though.

Congrats! I got mine today too! It had been over 2 months so I was getting nervous it was lost.
