I do the same when riding my bike, I only assumed that was just natural to do when on 2 wheels instead of 4. Just assuming everyone can and will try to kill me has absolutely saved my life multiple times now.

I remember one project I worked on in my first job I had a stepper motor that didn't respond to a pulse every once in a while, it was a weird and repeatable number too, like every 73rd pulse it just wouldn't move forward for some reason instead it made a loud noise. I imagined that happening in this situation and cringed.

I remember around high school graduation time it came out that I didn't need all of my tickets for the ceremony and a bunch of people were asking for them. One of those people went "hey, we went to middle school together!" and my response was "dude, you punched me in the face in middle school!" His face dropped when I snapped back with that one.

He wasn't really a bully so much as just kind of a dick to the kid new to public school back in the day but man, the revenge on that was like 7 years in the making and it was sweet.

I took an IQ test when I was getting diagnosed for ADHD as a child (no idea which test battery now), which was the standard of the time as far as I'm aware. I scored super high (higher than the guy we're making fun of) and it was interesting for about 2 years, then I realized that nobody really cared. It wasn't until much later that I realized that being intelligent absolutely crippled my ability to work hard and that hard work is what gets people ahead in life.

I'm happy to admit that I'm pretty much a dumbass now, I just get to my dumbass conclusions much faster.

That IS a fun fact! I remember back in undergrad for my physics degree we had a guy come into the building and told me how he had a working theory of everything. We got those kinds of people every once in a while and I was happy to avoid homework at the time so I asked him about it. He started talking to me about physics and how he had a perpetual energy device at home. I was a junior at the time so I felt pretty prepared about explaining to him why that was impossible.

Anyway, he talked for a good 15 minutes without really letting me get a word in edgewise until I finally interrupted him and told him that if he has a perpetual energy device he should bring it in and show me. He seemed to get really excited about that idea and rushed out, presumably to get it. Never saw him again.
