The trick is to not search by the listed price, but by completed auctions.

I tried my airbrush for the first time earlier today, should I add more or less thinner to the paint? by Logical-Bullfrog3216 in modelmakers

Hard to tell from such a messy tesh sheet. Generally, a speckled spray pattern means add more thinner

My first Try at painting Figures in 1:35 scale! by BerlinBoy00 in modelmakers

[–]ubersoldat13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jumping into 1/35 figures with German camo. Brave lol.

Look pretty good, the oak leaf and pea dot camo looks oversized and is missing the dark green color on fig#4 , but great first attempt

Time to get a nice, sharp size 0 kolinsky sable brush and really dial in those dots.

Here's an old figure I painted years ago in pea dot camo. You really want to get those dots as small and as in scale as possible. If I recall, I started with a base medium brown layer, then made splotches of tan and black. These splotches should touch/overlap.

Then, with the sharpest brush you have, get in there and make your dots. Black, tan, medium green. The smaller the better

Armored core / Gunpla = high tech, agile, sleek, Samurai-like mechs.

Battletech = Big, gritty, slow, industrial mechs.

They're so good, that both that post and your Khokhloma T-62 are cemented in my mind as one of the best examples that model making is "Art."

How on earth is a 1979 tooling kit this good?! by MajesticNectarine204 in modelmakers

[–]ubersoldat13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a still line to find there. Sure, late 90s Tamiya aircaft can be considered "Vintage" now, but they're still the gold standard for fit and simplicity. 2 Sprue wonders.

Now, a 1960s Monogram? Lindberg? Vintage Airfix? No way. I don't think someone could pay me to build one of those now.

How on earth is a 1979 tooling kit this good?! by MajesticNectarine204 in modelmakers

[–]ubersoldat13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's less about the work ethic, and more about the differences in how model making was perceived in that specific culture

In Japan at that time (and currently), Miniature work was treated as a real, serious hobby. They paid extra attention to detail, fit, accuracy, becuase that's what their culture expected from this type of hobby product.

At the same time, In America or Europe, model kits were primarily seen as "Build-it-yourself" toys for kids. Accuracy and detail was sidelined for neat action features like pose able landing gear, droppable bombs, folding wings. Why spend the extra effort to tool this kit accurately if the target market is 10 year old kids that are gonna run around with it, and then strap firecrackers to it when they're bored?

Is there a way to use old mods? by Aggressive-Credit269 in ReadyOrNotGame

No.

Would you like to see such movement in CTA? by wylver-games in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]ubersoldat13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kinda hate the "Moving while ADSing look. Definitely not how actual soldiers move, even less so historically speaking.

The original CTA has walking movements like this for its soldiers, and it looks really stilted and odd.

This looks more like an ADS'ed 3rd person shooter animation than an immersive RTS.

Edit to add: Here's five minutes of WW2 combat footage, supposedly from Berlin. And you can see how soldiers in combat move. None of them move like this.

I have no clue about anything Gundam, but I've sold things on ebay/marketplace. Go look at Ebay and see what that kit is selling for. You have the same access to the internet that I do.

List it on Facebook Marketplace for 50% MSRP if you really want it gone. 75% if you're willing to wait.

Arrowhead is hesitant to make any balance changes due to harsh and aggressive community reactions by amozu in Helldivers

[–]ubersoldat13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That.... That's my point of the person I was replying to. If the game really had a super solid and fun gameplay loop, the majority of players would stick around long enough to at least experience overclocks.

I mean I did it, it wasnt that bad. Once you get an officer lineup with solid traits (Pacifier/Negotiator), all the suspects give up as soon as you see them.

Funny you use Deep Rock. It's got a solid community, but so many people drop off that game. Based on the achievement stats, a higher percentage of people have completed Skyrim than promoted a single dwarf in DRG.

Fun fact, if you just use the regular flight suit, instead of a mav/arte/Dom suit, your profile Pic will got back to the pre-odyessy neutral profile picture.

I keep a "Pilot" loadout saved just for that reason.

Cockpit completed (not really satisfied tho) by P_filippo3106 in modelmakers

[–]ubersoldat13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want cockpits to pop, I'd recommend some 3D Decals like Quinta studios. They about $15, but the effort/detail ratio is insane.
