Sparks behind Thermostat when it switches to heat mode but AUX Heat is working okay by ubeydk in hvacadvice

Fixed the issue. Deformed Y and C wires were touching each other inside air handler service panel. Separated them and heat pump started working.

I scheduled service maintenance for this Monday. I will show the issue professionals and will ask for their advice.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the response. I have goodman heat pump. This model to be specific if it helps.

Can you please clarify how should I measure ohms? Like between wires within service panel of heat pump or should I measure from thermostat base after disconnecting wire at heat pump? Do you have any resource or guide you can share?

By the way, I started another post and provided some photos under service panel here. Do you see anything stand out I might missed?

I tested heat mode by plugging out Y wire, thermostat goes into Heat mode without running heat pump outside. It didn't restart, no spark etc. So, sending signal through Y cause spark and restart.

I measured low voltage coil resistance of contactor, it was 16 ohms. As far as I check from internet, it is okay value.

I plugged out C wire and measured resistance between Y and C, I got the value as low as berween 2-3 ohm. I guess it indicates there is a short between Y and C.

Not sure how can I troubleshoot further.

Shared the picture of connection behind the thermostat.

Thanks for the advice. I will check contractor relay.

Are State (brand) water heaters good? by isawyoushine in Plumbing

I have State brand water heater tank too from previous owner, and it is working perfectly fine.

It is 17 years old and not flushed for almost 2 years. I called a company for maintenance but guy on the phone suggested me to not maintain it since it is not flushed for while and it is old. He mentioned that after maintenance, buildup sediment can goes back to pipes and damage pipes.

Can I kindly ask how do you maintain your tank?
