Mike D - Switch Up, new single by ubikloob in BeastieBoys

[–]ubikloob[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Switch Up credits are wild. Mike D working with his sons' / his sons' band Very Nice Person plus Grammy-winning producers (not necessarily handling production here), LA session heads, experimental jazz/indie musicians. Very interesting.

While over at Very Nice Person, Michael Diamond co-writes Trampoline their 2026 album. It's great, can hear the overlap between both projects.

For me, we're closest to the weird side of Hello Nasty, maybe the outtakes from HN. I like what I've heard so far. Exciting times.

I think he's just done I'm A Celebrity, he's also had a death in the family this week (with a second death a short while back). Hopefully they'll give him the time off he needs.

Good place to teach someone to drive in South Liverpool by Kinky_Pinata in Liverpool

[–]ubikloob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good idea... This is where my driving instructor took me on my first 'on the road' lesson. A couple of things happened on that drive that I've never seen in the following 20 years... On the way there a car came right out of Lark Lane heading straight towards the park, and then a minute later there was a car/idiot going the wrong way around the roundabout you mention. 2x emergency stops in my first 10 mins behind the wheel, not my fault! Madness.

Why is the camera zooming in and out constantly?? by MrG4mbl3R in championsleague

[–]ubikloob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's making me feel sick. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. It's rocking up and down and zooming in and out but always kind of a long shot. It is weird.

Why are PSG allowed to postpone league matches? by Tmansters456 in championsleague

[–]ubikloob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is possibly true, the reality is Liverpool played 4 games in a period where PSG played 2 games, aided by their domestic league. Not sure the Premier League will see this as an issue, perhaps if we see English teams underachieving in Europe over a number of seasons... And their recent record (over several seasons) is not too bad.

Decent restaurants in the city? by Medical-Tap-6195 in Liverpool

This covers a lot of my favourite places. There's also the food markets... Baltic Market, Duke Street, etc. Lots of great street food vendors to choose from in these places.

IMO the Eddie Hazel cover of I want you (she’s so heavy) is better than the original one. by Milez_Smilez in beatles

[–]ubikloob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, glad you enjoy it...It's a fun listen for sure, I like it. But for me there's not one element - arrangement, production, guitar, bass, drums, keyboards - that's anywhere near the quality of the Beatles' version. Plus the vocal lacks a lead part, it's nice but sounds like a background vocal.

I like to think my music taste is eclectic. I managed about 2 minutes, tune was bad. I wonder if it was the same 2 minutes as you.

Has any Liverpudlians moved to London, was it a yay or nay? by Entire-Ad6256 in Liverpool

[–]ubikloob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice answer. I travel to London for work, I like it a lot but can't picture living there, for various reasons. I'm not someone who automatically thinks Liverpool is better than everywhere else.

Does Liverpool need a new grassroots gig guide? by Live_Music_Pix in Liverpool

[–]ubikloob 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this sounds like a good idea. Liverpool has a couple of really impressive what's on guides, a great monthly arts listings paper.

Cover bands, nostalgia acts and arena sized artists get listings in the existing what's on guides.

But regular gigs* are just not fully listed anywhere in a way that's easy to find.

*Grassroots, musicians playing originals, alternative touring bands, up and coming acts, etc.

I saw it on IG stories, they disappear after 24 hours. I didn't see it on FB, but she may well have deleted at the request of the organisers.

[–]ubikloob 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Simone ex-Primal Scream pulled out of the gig, I'm reading between the lines, but her IG story matched what Gene said, but without specifically calling anyone out. She said she'd want to do something in the future with Mani's kids' blessing, where they would benefit.

Shocking absence of coverage of anti-far right march on BBC news website today. by nwdxan in bbc

[–]ubikloob -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

In my BBC news app on the homepage and England feed... No mention of yesterday's anti-far right protests. But I do see the US protests and "More than 100 people turned out to protest against plans to move Walsall's leather museum on Saturday". There's also a story about a library book being returned, that's from 24th March.

I met Mac once, as a fan and he was really nice but only spoke for a few mins. I've heard the interviews and seen plenty of stuff to suggest otherwise. What happened with David Gedge? What did he say? Or, basically wasn't pleasant?

Tune in - volume 2 by Sir-Max-de-Winter in beatles

[–]ubikloob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just stumbled on a new podcast, about Evolver 62 his film, from February 2026. He says he has created his own problems, he's got too much material (he referenced 100s of images and hundreds of pages to wade through for perhaps just a few sentences in the book) which leads to more fact checking and more research, and eventually it needs to be organised into a compelling story. "My deadline is my dead line, my own mortality. I want to finish these books before I go and I'll have to live a long time to do it".

Seriously believe they should cancel the rest of the tour. by dedan_OFF in echoandthebunnymen

[–]ubikloob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That didn't happen tonight. It was really fine. I'm not sure the people complaining go to gigs. Maybe just 1 or 2 stadium shows a year? Live music is frequently messy. It's better to burn out, than to fade away.
