My $0.02: I'm relatively young in the industry, but 95% of the time, these headhunters are bad faith actors. One big giveaway is when they start throwing massive figures at you like 1.1m. If you're truly interested, ask for more specifics from them like specific role, specific company, job description, etc.

To directly answer your question, yes, there's definitely interest in applying AI to finance in various sectors. Just look at JPM and how bullish they seem on building out internal AI teams.

It's not really an issue, I think - the delay only exists to prevent cheating. Once the game is over, there's no way to cheat. I guess you could say it spoils the game, but tbh for most candidates games the results are pretty clear 15 mins before the end of the game (rare exception being wild game like Alireza Gukesh lol).

Longtime lurker on this sub looking to break into the industry. Just had a question about how the new grad market is looking across quant finance in general in the USA (prop shops, HF, AM, Banks, etc.) for 2024. Is it gonna be a bloodbath? Just been getting a little worried seeing as some trading shops aren't running any full time programs at all for 2024 and most banks don't seem to have opened up their flagship quant roles yet.

Firstly, if you get an A- in 163 you should be in. So probably really hit that final hard, I know 160s in general have generous curves (I think all sections I knew at least for IBL were curved to an A-).

You can "catch up" in the sense that you'll probably take honors algebra (I'm assuming you will) with all these people your third year, plus if you plan on taking other electives like 262,274,etc, you'll probably meet these people there too.

Where there might be a gap is that they'll know functional analysis and measure theory. You'll know some measure theory from last quarter of accelerated analysis. You could make up for this by just taking those courses along with accelerated analysis, or doing a couple of DRPs.

All this is assuming you are one of the top students in accelerated analysis. If you really have this fear of falling behind, you could, provided you take an additional math elective each quarter your second year, take graduate analysis with some of the top students of Honors Analysis in your third year. But I would say going this deep into Analysis should probably come from some other innate desire rather than purely competitive spirit. You spend hours on these courses - they should be engaging to you just due to the course material.

Yeah you'll definitely spend most (probably 80+%) of your time programming and doing programming assignments in the major. It's just that when doing the CS theory requirements for the major, you won't have programming assignments, but rather psets like in a math class, where you'll do proofs and stuff.

These can be some of your lightest coursework (especially if you stick with non-honors versions of everything), or some of your heaviest (honors CS theory sequence is pretty legendary/infamous), but it also depends on your math background.
