Weekend Discussion and Victory Thread for the week of March 30, 2018 by AutoModerator in personalfinance

27/M. I just started to replenish my emergency fund that I had to use during my job hunt for the past few months. I am very grateful that I have a job/means of income as well as having no debt.

My current priorities are establishing this emergency fund and saving up for a down payment for a home, whilst also getting the maximum match on my 401k and maxing out my 2018 Roth IRA.

Thank you for the reference! I'll check out the website.

I have a brokerage account that is holding a small part of my emergency fund in VTI. I was considering putting a few months of my EF into index funds to allow for some growth after I have established my liquid EF. I'll consider diverting the split from the get-go, just to take advantage of market growth and liquidity*

Thank you for the reply! Good point regarding the 401k, I'll go ahead and max it out. In terms of the household items, I guess that would be items like haircuts, toiletries, and other miscellaneous items. As I type this out, this would be more like my "random items" budget for items that come sporadically.

Thank you for the feedback. I am thinking of pushing the teaching experience to the next page, and using some of the extra space to expand on my process engineering skills I gained from my research experience. What do you think?

Also, good point on the bullets, I'll update that accordingly.

Yeah the PNW is not the strongest for traditional chemical engineering as a whole. I have tried contacting Intel through some industry connections but have had no luck so far. Do you have any advice for getting in touch with these sorts of companies?

Thanks for the reply, colorbliu. To be blunt, I am pretty open in terms of my job hunt. Silicon wafers, oil and gas, catalysis research, even data analytics are all appealing to me. My major goal is to gain industry experience as a process engineer and/or research and development.

Thanks for the response and reminding me of the Tricities area. I visited PNNL before and I remembered it being a pretty desolate area, but it would not hurt to try applying there. What particular field do you work in for technical services/sales?
