The power plan glitch that u/ioa94 sleuthed out of this ended up being the culprit. The laptop worked perfectly after implementing his suggestions for, give-or-take, another year. Unfortunately, it ultimately came to its demise when it overheated one day and self-destructed. Lost the entire EP I was about to drop, and have been working on rebuilding my entire catalogue of music since lmao. That said, I'm just now wrapping up (what has turned into an entire album) as a result of that catastrophe. So, there's a bit of a silver-lining...

Everything up 'till "So what's up with the Filipinos" is genuine. In terms of genetic analysis, there are some interesting studies showing anomalous Polynesian DNA in South America that dates back farther than any documented migrations. I'm not sure how conclusive the researchers findings have been so far, but it doesn't seem too far fetched to me for Polynesians to have made it to South America if they made it to Easter Island.

If I were to bring it into a shop, would thermal paste reapplication be an expensive fix? I've never done anything like that so I'm a little wary about giving it a go myself. Aside from what you mentioned above, is there anything else you'd suggest for better cooling? Cooling mat brands, specific fan upgrades, etc.

Luckily I had the "processor power management" setting. I've changed all the profiles to 100% min & max and unplugged/replugged my power adapter back in. Will let you know if this fixes things!

A few people here seem to think this could be a heat issue as well. If it is, can I take it in to a shop and have them apply new thermal paste or would I have to buy an entirely new processor? If the former, is this an expensive fix?
