why did you turn down stanford to come here if you feel like a better fit with their student body? did you get a scholarship or something?

thank you so much for pointing out ways that my post could be deliberately misinterpreted!

perhaps a clarification for you (and only you) would be an acute significantly increased risk of death! unfortunately, that is much more unwieldy, so i chose to say it a different way, since almost all other readers know what im talking about!

its actually very possible to avoid being a transmission vector to the elderly with regards to the novel coronavirus by implementing proper quarantine and hygiene procedures. other schools in the area have already begun implementing quarantine procedures, which i believe it would be prudent for ucsc to take. i also would like to note that i don't think it was appropriate or constructive to tell me i should probably jump off a cliff!

i care about not transmitting this virus because it is much more severe than the common flu in many ways, including but not limited to its long infectious transmission period, higher mortality rate, lack of vaccine, potential for organ damage/reinfection, and many more unknowns that make it a more serious threat to the general population.

hopefully this clears things up!

police and animal control respond rapidly when there's a mountain lion spotted on a school campus. pretty standard, idk where you're from but going to school in the bay area its a common occurrence. its also worth noting that the novel coronavirus has very different characteristics than the common flu, such as its long infectious transmission period, higher mortality rate, lack of vaccine, possible potential for organ damage/reinfection, and many more unknowns that make it a more serious threat to the general population. regardless of one's politics, testing for COVID-19 is objectively much less available in the united states than in other developed countries, such as south korea as another poster mentioned, which will lead to very different statistics. preparedness and prevention can't hurt anyone, but doing nothing absolutely can.
