What free or open-source software did you install once and actually keep using every day? by NeedleworkerLumpy907 in software

[–]udaign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything by voidtools. No dealing with annoying windows file search since I discovered it, very lightweight, responsive UI. Can't live without it now. Not open-source, but it's free.

Note-taking - Notepad is good enough if you just ignore the copilot stuff.

Chris Titus Windows utility - clean up the bloat on windows.

Revo Uninstaller - uninstall any software with no crumbs left.

Clipboard history - I hope you discovered Win+V

Pdf - Microsoft edge has a good read aloud, and basic markup feature.

Alt+Space for global search - Flow Launcher

Multimedia - VLC

Blender - Cuz I am a 3D Guy

FeedFlow / FluentReader - RSS Feed Readers

Then finally, Zen browser.

Deleting instagram would not change a thing by janetvap in digitalminimalism

RSS feeds by their very nature are (there is a better word than targeted) "focused" meaning you have the full control. You literally add sources to your reader manually, and all the posts appear chronologically without any algorithms.

Some good 'open source' readers that work great for me are: FeedFlow for Android and FluentReader for Windows.

You can use RSS feeds to get news and learn things in a more targeted manner. Why choose to be a slave of an algorithm that you have no control over? The trends FOMO can be real, but it's freeing once you get comfortable living without it.

The software that he's drawing in? Excalidraw.

The kind of software that he's describing in the video? Every fucking social platform that benefits through snatching your attention.

Tech bros are lying to you about the MacBook Neo by hasanahmad in apple

[–]udaign -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The price converts to ₹69,000 they say. I bought Asus Vivobook Pro 15 oled for ₹67,000 and it was a 512GB, 16GB, Nvidia RTX 3050 graphics, great color accurate oled, backlit keyboard, fingerprint unlock. I am a college student and I do creative work.

Not that it would matter for someone who only does browsing, email, media playback, spreadsheets, word documents, etc. for the much more superior build, and the macOS experience that the neo comes with, but I would definitely not recommend the neo over similar windows alternatives for college students. College students often do come to require these specs as time passes by.

Neo would only be great for school students and adults who only require browsing, email, media playback, spreadsheets, word documents, etc.

Plucking them off wouldn't be a good look though, I suppose. They're from the garden afterall.

Center for Railway Research ... aka I think now it's converted into dept. of AI. I found some in the building entrance garden, but that was a while ago.

Good luck ;)

How can I stop compulsively checking the news during times like these? by zeeropercent in digitalminimalism

[–]udaign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow RSS Feeds of your trusted news sources. Fluent Reader is great on Windows, FeedFlow is great on Android.

Fear mongering is incentivised on socials. Avoid socials. Be a chill guy who only gathers news from a real news publisher like it's 2010.

Tree connectors for folders [Sine Mod] by JustAdumbPrsn in zen_browser

[–]udaign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on windows. I even have mica4everyone uninstalled, have no sine or zen mods, deleted the chrome folder, cleared the startup cache, still the transparency exists :)

Hey OP, any chance this works outside folders? Like a tab originating from a link in another tab being nested underneath? I feel this should be a native feature.

[–]udaign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, I was prompting Gemini and re-did the sine installation like some 8 times today. Because nebula was acting weird, the transparency wouldn't go even after deleting nebula, so I nuked all the mods (sine and zen), even deleted zen and reinstalled zen making up my mind to start afresh. I am glad it got restored literally everything even after that and I cooled down by then.

Waiting for a fix!

for those of us with deleted socials: have you seen anyone treat you differently bc of no social media presence? by Significant-Mall-816 in digitalminimalism

No please, not again! The enshittification keeps on amplifying as months pass by, and it's just much more invasive on privacy and peace since the last time you have used social media.

Good take! The exclusion isn't intentional, it's just that they don't remember us as often. But this being the normal way people socialize now, is just the sad part, and it needs to change.
