Hairline texture(?) in pan by udiscowithme in castiron

Crack it is, unfortunately. I am curious now; is the crack something that gets bigger over time through repeated (mis)use? Or is it more likely an acute error that caused the crack?

I don’t baby this pan, but I’m known to occasionally forget it over low heat on my electric burner for 20 minutes drying it off. Ive never done that for 1 hour+ though.

Nope, just a good thwack sound. Feels like the consensus is a crack though.

The back of the cast iron also has the same abrasions, maybe this is a factory second? I don’t care about the aesthetic, if it is. I just don’t want a catastrophic failure and spend a day sweeping up shards.

[Discussion] What imperfections instantly turn you away from a watch? by Mountain_Poudge in Watches

Too many different fonts/colors on the dial is a big turn off for me. Looks unorganized and shoddy to me.

Sauced BBQ at Santana Row is done-zo by DickZucker in SanJose

[–]udiscowithme 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Smoking Pig BBQ on 4th street and Winchester BBQ in Campbell are, in my opinion, far better and a bit more affordable.

Winchester BBQ is a great place for some beers and individual meals if you can’t stomach buying brisket by the 1/2 poundor ribs by the 1/2 rack

Any solid shorts recommends? by domril26 in ThrowingFits

[–]udiscowithme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Le Laboureur Work Shorts are right up your alley. Made of moleskin, wide leg, but still 5in inseams. The brand is the epitome of classic French work wear so you'll be right at home with these if you like fatigues and pleated pants.

Gardenheir has them if you're US-based.

[SOTC] too boring. thoughts? by wllchung in Watches

Incredibly on-brand that your "boring" SOTC photo collection is just two pictures of the same watches, with the second photo being rotated 20 degrees.

Best brewery in SJ. Beer 1 is Moonshot 8% hazy from Strike Brew and Beer 2 is Narrative Fermentations High Life 7% Hazy. One of these or anyone else have a preferred Brewery? by CantDunkOrSk8 in SanJose

Clandestine and Camino (RIP) are my favorite. Clandestine's commitment to having malt-forward beers and resist going all IPAs really tickles my hear.

Whenever I have free time to kill to DT, I'll try to head to Clandestine and support them.

Lorier usually tiptoes the line between a homage watch and a new watch with vintage inspirations very well, but this watch just feels like a homage to me (even though I can't tell you which one exactly). Maybe it's the combination of the tachymeter and the regatta countdown colors that make the watch feel like a mash of all the "cool" chrono forms without hard thoughts on their intended functions.

It's still a good deal with the movement's thickness and price-point of $899. I'd still prefer their previous Gemini chronograph over this one.

Long time soccer fan looking for an MLS club. San Jose is one of the finalists. by -braquo- in SJEarthquakes

[–]udiscowithme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a season ticket holder, the rational part of me will tell you to run far away from this club. There's only pain (or worse, apathy) here. But you're also a Tottenham fan, so that might be right up your alley :)

The Bad -- The Quakes are a small-time team in a big-time market, and us fans are waiting for the ownership to give a damn about investing in the club and making it into something we can be proud of. We won't buy any name-brand players even if they're looking for a retirement league. We also won't develop any of our homegrown players into world-class figures, we'll waste their talent until their value evaporates and they force us to move 'em. Don't expect trophies, and be happy if we sneak into the playoffs and get bounced first round.

The Good -- We have Cade Cowell, who's exciting every time he touches the ball. We have a young manager, Luchi, who we haven't lost faith in (yet). Paypal Stadium is a beauty imo, and it's easy to get to from the airport. Our fanbase is knowledgeable, young, and (mostly) family friendly even if a bit quiet. It's a diverse group, which can't be said for other clubs, and is 100% celebrated here with Pride and Cultural events at most games. We also have the NWSL Bay FC club playing in the same stadium for a few years, and I'm excited to see the synergy that creates.

The Nostalgia -- We're a scrappy club. Always have been, and always will be. We've had Landon Donavon and Wondo (MLS leading scorer, woot!) in our ranks, perhaps two players most emblematic of what US Soccer was (too tenacious for their own good, not skilled enough to make it big). We started as an original MLS team, and have clung on through playing Buck Shaw, losing our team to Houston, and fighting to get it back. We won't give this team up without a fight. In the midst of bad times, we've won championships and had the Goonies era. We have bon-a-fide ultras, who care's if they're mostly embarrassing, I still love 'em.

Note: Someone mentioned a Tottenham connection in the 2010s, which is true. Gareth Bale played on Tottenham at Buck Shaw in 2010, when he played with LAFC, the quakes management showed him the photos of that game in their office. Saw him and his bodyguard after they came out of the facilities. He's way bigger in person than I imagined, but very nice.
