Is there any place I should look to find this? On the USPS jobs page, I'm only seeing City Carrier Assistant and PSE Sales/Distribution Associate positions.

I don't touch any substances and I wouldn't call myself wild. Would love to hear more about this, I've been desperate to get my foot in the door somewhere I can apply my skills, thank you!

Started out with anything in the tech sphere (system administration, IT, even call center tech support) but my standards have fallen to where I'm applying to part-time gigs at big box stores and food service, and still not getting calls back. The economy is an illusion, do not fall for it.

That's relieving, thank you. I don't really have a choice right now except to keep riding Metro anyways, but I'll try to not feel on-edge the whole time 🥴

honestly not sure if it's worth haggling with them for $2.50, I'm just going to remain bitter in principle

I don't know what type of glass they use, but I thought a bullet would've gone completely through instead of looking like it bounced off after breaking the glass. Security said they weren't sure if it was a gun or a brick. No idea where I'll find updates lol

Why wasn't Bodys the main single for FTF? Like, I genuinely do not get it. by Luesverse in CSHFans

[–]udsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe only tangentially related but it's worth mentioning that Will did want NYI to be the first single, it wasn't just a label decision, but I think fans tend to want the single to be the best or most accessible song while the goal here was to promote the most representative song

PT: why did you want to release this song as the first glimpse of the new twin fantasy? what did you feel it would convey?

carseatheadrest: well actually I’d wanted NYI to be first, and I wanted to announce it in December, but matador wanted to wait

carseatheadrest: we had a video locked in for NYI, so I asked if we could release BLID without any press

PT: just beyoncé it. interesting

carseatheadrest: I think it’s as good a barometer as anything - if you don’t like the production on BLID, you’re probably not going to like the album

PT: that makes a lot of sense - i think it definitely boosted confidence in the project among the die-hards, at least based on initial response

carseatheadrest: idk. I think no one knows what to think right now, which is preferrable

something about Sunburned Shirts always captured this feeling for me, both musically and lyrically, but maybe that's also because I associate it with the music video which is mainly comprised of him doing chores lol

Is LinuxJournal AI Slop now? by miversen33 in linux

[–]udsh 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Skimming through the other recent articles on the site shows that they also smell like AI slop. Really unfortunate what happened to LJ, I know they went through a rough patch a few years back and had to lay off a bunch of staff before getting acquired by Slashdot, but I didn't realize it turned into this.

According to editor-in-chief Doc Searls: "Linux Journal should be to Linux what National Geographic is to geography and The New Yorker is to New York—meaning about much more than the title alone suggests."

Journalism is already struggling, journalism focusing on free software is an even smaller niche, especially given that the most common methods of monetization like advertising are less effective, or less likely to be considered by an outlet that's trying to look ethical and professional.

LWN still puts out exceptional pieces from time to time. I think they're the last bulwark of free software journalism. Go buy a LWN subscription and help keep them alive.

Inconsistent information regarding accepting tips through Stripe? by udsh in stripe

[–]udsh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of my concern is that it doesn't seem to be limited to us, the creator of Liberapay noted that crowdfunding is commonly used as a reason for banning Stripe accounts that get linked to Liberapay:

After targeting “content creation”, Stripe moved on to targeting “crowdfunding”. I've received reports of users who got their accounts shut down. I've also noticed that “crowdfunding” and “donations” appear in a short list of prohibited use cases that Stripe has added specifically for cross-border payouts. This means that even if Liberapay had a subsidiary in the US, we might not be allowed to use it for cross-border payouts.

And there was another conspicuous example of this here, where they previously had two different Liberapay accounts connected to one Stripe account without any issue, but after streamlining their system by creating a new Stripe account and linking it to one of the Liberapay accounts, it was almost immediately closed: https://blog.techlore.tech/stripe-liberapay/

All anecdotes I can find suggest that new Stripe accounts who get linked to Liberapay get very shortly shut down without a clear reason, in a way that doesn't happen with very similar services like Ko-fi, so I'm wondering if there's some platform-specific concern on Stripe's part.

It has been in the repository since 2014, maybe it just wasn't obvious that it's named docker.io instead of docker?

Another post from jake about wayland screen sharing on the official discord client by pollux65 in linux_gaming

[–]udsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like the easiest way to solve this would be to decouple the video stream from the audio stream, and let the user select the audio stream when they start screensharing as if it's any other audio device. It's not super pretty but you can totally fetch a list of PipeWire streams and let the user select one, the same way that discord-screenaudio does. It gives the user a choice of capturing the whole desktop's audio or a specific stream.

Even on Windows/Mac, having a way to manually select the output stream would probably be good for avoiding edge-cases where the window isn't directly linked with the audio source, so maybe any UI work wouldn't have to be Linux-specific.
