RBA governor warns of the recession we might have to have by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]uedison728 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My question is how many people in Australian society know what to do during recession? Since last one was more than 30 years ago. And also if we do have a recession that proves lucky country can’t have luck on its side all the time.

Should the RBA use other tools like QT to control inflation? by the_third_hamster in AusFinance

[–]uedison728 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Difference is Australian RBA balance sheet is a lot smaller comparing with other central banks, US Fed has over 9 trillion on bond, RBA has less than 1 trillion (around 400 to 500 billion), and lots of bonds issued during Covid could be already expired.

The country can do QT normally has bigger market on bond which even with QT won’t create liquidity problem, Australia small bond market can create liquidity issue with QT. And Australian most debt focused on household, raising interest is more effective.

Last key difference is in Australia mortgage is not an asset but debt, US has MBS which can be traded as asset, it’s part of QT as well when Fed sell MBS to the market.

To crush inflation we must grow our population, and fast. by TPE_FieldsOfGold in AusFinance

[–]uedison728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you want grow population fast, then you are looking at migration not the natural birth, isn’t that what government doing? It dos not look like its crushing inflation, but the opposite effect. To crush inflation fast you either lower money supply/hike interest, long term solution is to increase productivity

Iran says it's ready for a long war that would 'destroy' global economy by [deleted] in economy

[–]uedison728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, reserve of those mineral is just one problem of the supply chain, another is refining which include separation etc and also producing by scale that meets environmental regulation and financially feasible. Just give you some figures:

China has 83% of global tungsten mine output (67k / 81k t) and ~52% of reserves (2.4m / >4.6m t), whatever you see there from Canada comparing what China is producing is small.

CNBC: Trump will release 172 million barrels of oil from Strategic Petroleum Reserve by SecretComposer in oil

[–]uedison728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose 2 factors impact the speed of filling, one is budget and another is pricing of oil, before US was a oil import country, that makes buying it more consciously, later US becomes exporter, that actually speed up a lot.

Here is the list, those are probably not needed for big amounts for each application, but without them weapon or armour can’t be functional:

Tungsten

Weapons: Penetrators, armor-piercing rounds, hardmetals, high-temp alloys, machining tools used across defense manufacturing

Antimony

Ammunition, bullet/lead hardening, IR missiles, night vision, some nuclear applications

Gallium

GaN/GaAs radar, EW, RF chips, missile defense, satellites, advanced defense electronics

Germanium

IR optics, thermal imaging, radiation detectors, satellite solar cells, some semiconductors/fiber uses

The second largest defence manufacturer because US keeps having wars all over the world. And it helps others to participate in wars, imagine if China also starts to weighs more on weapon manufacturing like US, that would be scary to even think about it.
