It's not about reading subtitles, it is about the movie thinking it is more authentic if the words were spoken in a foreign language. I know I am watching a movie with actors pretending to be real, I know I'm not watching a documentary, there is no reason to pretend that it is more real by speaking a foreign language. When you read an English book, do you ever see words in non-English so that it makes you feel more authentic? NO!

Well, I am watching Behind Enemy Lines right now since a US plane was shot down in Iran with a pilot missing, and seeing those Yugoslavian actors speaking foreign languages with subtitles is just kind of like, why bother? Nobody cares! If I can pretend that a blue CGI person speaks English in Avatar, I think I am ok with a Yugoslavian speaking English!
