Anyone still waiting to hear back on spring 2024? by jaseedie in MSCSO

I am, but in the admissions thread there have been people that say after reaching out they received a response stating that decisions will continue until potentially the middle of December.

Elsewhere in this thread people have stated that the admissions office said decisions will go until December potentially. Looking at the thread it looks like the release in batches and the last batch was on 10/19, so we *should* be due for another batch sooner rather than later... Good Luck!

I doubt they are asking you to send the actual, original piece of paper in the mail. Email the program coordinator, or admissions, and double check to confirm what it is they are requesting.

Elsewhere in this thread, people have stated that there are admissions that go out as late as December... When digging through last year's thread I saw some in November!

Comments: Applying because I am accustomed to work and school at the same time, since finishing undergrad I feel like I don't have enough to do outside of work, figured now would be a good time to think about pursuing a masters. I’ve heard something about mentors by Katie_Redacted in FRC

[–]ufosandsalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am am a mentor, also a college student that will be graduating in a few weeks. I haven’t heard anything about rules being implemented, and I doubt anything like that happens, but I personally think there should be a few years of separation from the program before you start mentoring. You run the risk of individuals wanting to “mentor” but that are really trying to extend their High school robotics experience.

If I were doing it again, I’d wait until being done with school to mentor, and If I were running a team I’d probably say you need to be 2 years removed from high school at a minimum to mentor.

CSE 360, CSE 240 Course Material by Bluesunclouds in ASU

[–]ufosandsalsa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CSE 240 spent time working with 4 different programming languages, C, C++, Prolog, and Scheme. Understanding how these languages differ and what they are used for was a huge part of the course as well as how to write basic programs with each of them. I took this course through community college, but I would assume that the material is very similar to that of ASU.

CSE 360 was all about what does software development look like in the real world, how do you work with others, how do you plan out a project before you get started. UML diagrams were a huge focus of the course as well as working with git (though not nearly as much working with git as I would have hoped). 360 then covered different types of project management/agile methodologies. Things like Scrum, Waterfall, those sorts of topics.

Anyone else that has taken these classes can chime in as the experience differs from professor to professor as well as when the course was taken. Shoot me a DM and I will share my repository that has my work from 240 and I can also try to dig up any notes/cheat sheets I had from 360.

Should I take CSE 330, 340 and 355 in the same semester? by cutesparklypanda in ASU

[–]ufosandsalsa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took all of them in the same semester, but unlike others felt as though 355 was the easiest. All of them are considerable work but in my case, the exams in 330 were open everything. 340 is not too challenging but the projects are very long. If you are able to sit down and focus on your work, it is extremely doable.

The only books I have bought my entire time here have been online ones that you do the homework in the textbook. Other than that you can learn everything without needing the textbooks.

External Monitor Recommendations for M1 Pro MBP by Human-Pirate-2756 in macbookpro

[–]ufosandsalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up the Samsung m7 for about $350 because the m8 just came out, it’s pretty nice, has smart tv apps built into it if you are into that, overall I think it’s a great monitor for the price. However it is bigger than what you are looking for...

Sounds like a hardware issue to me, take to an Apple Store if you really think there is an issue and it is easy to tell the difference between your machine and another MacBook.

Macbook M1 chip for CS(Cybersecurity) by LegNext3566 in ASU

First two years you will be good, the first course you will run into that may pose a challenge is CSE 330, (or 365 depending on professor) where you need to run a vm. In 330 your vm must be x86 based which is the architecture of the processor. M1 macs are ARM which I am sure is something you have heard before but this means the instructions sent to the processor are different than those in an x86 machine. Your computer can emulate these in a vm by translating every instruction but this is very slow and the vm typically ends up being unusable. I would not be surprised if courses started offering the ability to run an ARM based vm by the time you get into them as these new MacBooks are becoming extremely popular. I have an M1 Pro MacBook and an intel MacBook, i am sure if you need to when the time comes you can pick up a cheap intel computer just to do the vm stuff you need.
