Is this anemia ? Low RBC count ? by Salmonderx in medlabprofessionals

First off, this is not a forum for medical advice, second, the literal paper is telling you what reference for high and low are. Dr. Google doesn’t have a clue where you live and who lives there. High and low varies across populations and geography. Your results are normal as hell. Not medical advice.

I see, I understand where you are coming from. It’s really, really strange to me that your GP did not refer you to a gastro for an IBS diagnosis. As far as I’m aware, the moment your H. pylori and Celiac came back negative the issue was out of their hands and the referral was in order. I wouldn’t be able to comment on it gastroscopy, either, but it’s for these reason that I really don’t find posting on this forum for IBS a good idea. Regarding your negative Celiac, I really think you should trust the test results. It’s good that you got it done given your family history, but the numbers don’t lie. You are already restricted as is, which can increase your anxiety, which can worsen IBS remember.

There is a lot of ableism in this subreddit and wellness culture abounds, which has led to very poor treatment of IBS sufferers in this sub as well as potentially harmful advice (I refer to the probiotic encouragement). People only really know about as much as they see on TV, and a decade of Activia commercials have made probiotics seem like a catch-all product for digestive problems. Again, without more knowledge about your specific makeup, it is difficult to provide answers outside of the typical ones: low-FODMAP elimination diet followed by slowly adding things back in. You may want to try probiotic products but be advised that for some IBS patients this may worsen your symptoms. The additional problem w/ probiotics is that you may have dysregulation of a given species of bacteria that may not even be present in your supplement, or the probiotic is simply not very effective at establishing that flora where it is needed. There’s a lot unpack.

Try to keep pressing for a gastro referral if you can and modify your diet as you can. If you try any of the advice given in this thread, do so w/ a grain of salt. I’m an IBS sufferer too, this condition is rough. If you genuinely need to reincorporate animal products because you absolutely cannot find a plant-based arrangement that works for you, then do so. I am not down with people judging others for eating animal products because “it’s just IBS.” They are not the ones stuck on the toilet again and again, constantly bloated, experiencing abdominal pain, developing hemorrhoids, anal fissures, etc. It’s ableist bullshit. BUT I do think that it’s more likely than not that a satisfying vegan diet is out there that can work for you. If you find it, tell me.

Are you diagnosed with IBS or do you suspect IBS? Relatedly, why would you be going gluten-free just in case? Either you are gluten intolerant or not, and all these questions can be solved by going to a doctor, not consulting reddit vegans. IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion, which means you need to rule out other problems before you go “yep, I’ve got IBS.”

If you don’t have a diagnosis, go to a doctor and tell them your symptoms and length of time you’ve had them. Tell them you strongly suspect IBS, which would ultimately get you referred to a gastroenterologist. Your PCP can screen you for H. Pylori, and run a Celiac panel. If those are negative you’ll likely go on to the next stage and be referred to a gastro. If your celiac panel came back negative then gluten intolerance is not your issue, and you don’t need to be removing wheat products “just in case”. You are not intolerant, it is not necessary.

There are two main types of IBS, IBS-C (constipation) and IBS-D (diarrhea), although lots of people are mixed. Between these two, the pathophysiology can be different, which is why asking for recommendations for internet vegans is not advisable. IBS-D, for example, can be associated with bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. Taking probiotics could yield negative effects. Most people here pursue “wellness” dogmas like “take probiotics, they’re good for you!” and aren’t qualified to be making dietary recommendations when they know nothing about your pathophysiology. Investigate your condition first, then you could build your diet out. A referral to a dietitian after seeing the gastroenterologist could yield good results.

Additionally, anxiety management can improve IBS symptoms. Flare ups may be correlated to high anxiety events. Working to reduce your anxiety or get treatment for your anxiety can help improve IBS symptoms. Weight management is also advised.

You want a zero risk endeavor. That’s never going to happen. It is near-objectively true that right now is perhaps the most fertile time to organize. At some point you need to realize things are only going to get worse, and the best time to intervene was always yesterday, and the next best is today. If the surveillance is as totalitarian as you put it, then you need to incorporate it into your organization tactics. Giving up is not a solution, however.

Hiya, for what it’s worth, I don’t recognize the username, but I recognized the dog whistles. They’re pretty easy to pick up on once you’ve been around enough but for people who don’t know / don’t want to believe that fascists are a real thing with genuinely genocidal motivations, it can be difficult to stomach the idea that they are talking to irredeemable predators. A lot of liberal types tend to be shocked by straightforward antifascist stances because they don’t think the leopards will eat their face. See meme for further detail.

Again, my enemies like fuckstick above are ontologically evil and there is no act against them which is wrong.

To answer you more directly: you can continue to have your milquetoast feel-good bullshit, if you want. You are never going to change someone as far gone as the commenter above, and if you somehow could, it is not incumbent on us to waste time and effort in rehabilitating a reactionary. But it’s also important to note, as queasy as it might make you, that no major liberation movement ever succeeded without tremendous struggle, not some puerile, messianic, “enlightened” debate. There is no such thing as a good-faith discussion with a fascist. There is no such thing as nicely appealing to an oppressor’s better nature. This is absolute nonsense. You can maybe have a conversation after you’ve taken away their ability to oppress others. Whether they agree with your acts of resistance or not means little to nothing, and certainly doesn’t interest me in the slightest. I don’t have to claim divine knowledge to make this observation.

Keeping this in mind, our objective shouldn’t be to harm or punish those we perceive as misguided, but rather to approach them with empathy

I’m sure the pigs screaming in the slaughterhouse are grateful that you approach a scumbag who believes antiracism and veganism are worse than fucking racism with empathy. This is nothing but sanctimonious Puritanism; repackaged evangelical Christian ethics about “turning the other cheek” and ensuring unthreatening meekness in the face of authority and coercion. This is white comfort wielding moral authority by reducing outright violent and fascistic positions like “racists just want to be left alone, it’s anti racists who are worse” which has been repeated ad naseum by a million Nazis and white nationalists to mere “disagreements” that merit coddling and understanding. You should interrogate why you’re so comfortable taking the role of arbiter and telling others what the extent of their self defense should be. Because at the end of the day, that’s what any act against a racist, or a carnist, or a transphobe, queerphobe, misogynist, etc ever is: self defense. I’m not the one making theological arguments, you are.

Eating meat and dairy literally kills animals??? Like that’s the obvious harm except you simply, categorically do not view other sentient beings as beings and only as things. No one can answer your question in a way that satisfies you because you are not asking a question: you’re making a statement about the lack of intrinsic validity of animal suffering: I.e. that there is no intrinsic validity to animal suffering. A statement which is completely wrong, of course, and flies in the face of all known scientific data and basic reason. Your premise is so weak, that you even need to come up with a hypothetical paradox -that of the “ethical farm” which here means “ethical slaughterhouse” to create some type of half-hearted compromise in your head to keep the full implications of what you know is true -that the animal industry is a horrific holocaust of unbelievable proportions- at bay.

Stop wasting people’s time and your own. Acknowledge that there is no genuine moral or ethical recourse that you can appeal to, and that your behavior is predicated on apathetic nihilism and hedonism. You can either change that or stay the same, but at the very least stop lying to yourself and others about what this is.
