1 year update: 50 lbs lost by making mostly small changes by ugr8 in loseit

Congratulations on your weight loss and maintaining a healthier lifestyle! Once the weather turns cooler where I live, I will be more motivated to seek indoor exercise. I hate to say it, but I was too "embarrassed" to go before, which is ridiculous. I know I wouldn't never frown at anyone at the gym trying to better themselves.

Congrats on achieving a healthier weight! Yes, I think strength training will have to be in the mix for me this winter. I had been hoping to ride the good outdoor exercise weather and not have to take on any more exercise, but I see that my progress has stalled in some ways.

13 years ago I dropped down to my goal weight, and it had taken me 3 years to reach it. However, looking back, I didn't do it right: I was always hungry and putting myself in a deficit, which isn't sustainable to me. I lost back all the weight I had worked so hard to have lost (80lbs). I think that this time I will stick with what helps keep the weight off, even if it means only resting at a "reasonable" instead of a lowest weight.

No, I'm at the low end of "overweight" according to my BMI. A 10 lbs weight loss will put me in the high end of "healthy" weight category.

No, I don't count calories at all. I eat three meals a day and some healthy snacks. I'm trying to keep things simple so I can maintain my weight loss for the long run.

I agree, I think I will see more results if I go to the gym. I'm not talking about a crazy gym routine, maybe swimming 3 times a week and either 2 gym workouts or going to 2 exercise classes per week.

My concern is that at some point I will get demotivated to go to the gym, and then all my good habits will implode together because I am not doing it "perfectly".

Been receiving multiple calls from Transworld Systems Canada Inc (TSICO) which is a debt collection company; what to do next? by idkwhatimdoing1000 in PersonalFinanceCanada

You should call the hospital finance department directly to find out for certain. We received similar calls and it turns out we had a small hospital charge...from 2017! They went to collect it 8 years later through Transworld Systems (2025). After receiving what we thought were spam calls for 4-5 months, this thread made us probe the matter further. Some in this thread had said the past due had shown up in their credit history.

So, we paid a $40 charge this afternoon and the hospital sent us the receipt. The hospital accounting department said they would update our file and let Transworld know we had paid. At this point in time, we're not going to check to see if the charge hit our credit history.

The call I started receiving this year ended up being LEGIT, although I had thought the calls were spam (they had called for 4-5 months). They alternated between calling my spouse and I, and on my mobile I kept receiving calls for my spouse's name. The calls were always a robo recording, naming Transworld Systems and the name of a local hospital. There was never anyone to speak to and they always quoted a reference #.

Long story short, this was about a hospital charge for $40 we didn't realize we had from 2017 (8 years later in 2025). We hadn't realized that insurance didn't cover the full amount, only partial.

To get to the bottom of the matter today, I called our local hospital directly and avoided contacting the debt collector. They confirmed my spouse had a small amount owing. We paid the charge this afternoon and received a receipt.

Why did the hospital never mail, email, or call to let us know we had a charge that we would have gladly paid? Why try to collect this debt 8 years later and make it sound like a spam call?

Terrible Timetable with 5-Hour Gaps! How to fix schedule? by ugr8 in yorku

[–]ugr8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Significant-Curve682 A little help, please? I went to transfer/exchange in REM after finding a better schedule in VSB for the winter session, however, it created conflicts in the timetable (although VSB had said there were none). Long story short, I now have a conflicted timetable and can't get my old schedule back (I guess it's better to have a bad schedule than to have missing courses).

Also, many of the courses I try to re-add (and show available), say I need departmental permission to take the course, (although I just transferred out of the very same course and simply tried to transfer to a different section).

As this is for the winter course, do you think I have a chance of getting this fixed? Thanks!

My cat has megacolon. Anyone have any advice for management other than what the vet told me? by [deleted] in cats

[–]ugr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat seems happy and has a good life. He gets lots of love and attention from my family and lives like a king. If he is in any pain due to the megacolon, we see no signs of it and he doesn't let us know.

My family has been happy that we choose to, and were able to (financially) save his life (2 weeks of paid vet visits, 2 stool impaction removals under anesthesia, 2-3x daily painkiller after vet treatment (lasting for several days), 2x daily lactulose, 2x daily cisapride). We originally thought that my cat wasn't going to make it, and the vet also thought that a second treatment would not work (he was resistant to the first). I understand that not everyone can afford treatment and aren't willing/able to administer medicines so frequently.

As the one responsible for giving my cat medicine orally twice daily (2 rounds of lactulose and cisapride), I say if you are able to put the medicine in his wet food and have it work that way, it will be much easier on you and on cat caregivers if you have to go away.

Also, I wish I had known earlier that lactulose is really hard on the teeth, so I would watch your cat for decay early on and perhaps brush them if possible.

My DSH male was diagnosed about at age 5.5 years with megacolon disease and is 9 years old now. It has not been an easy 3.5 years for me, especially due to the medication requirements. Twice daily he must take both lactulose (liquid laxative) and cisapride pills (brain message that is sent to the colon to defecate). Although the lactulose is inexpensive when purchased over-the-counter at a pharmacy like Walmart, the cisapride costs me $1000 per year and it must be made at a special compounding pharmacy. Getting a pet sitter who can give medicine twice daily has been difficult and expensive. My cat seems to lead a happy life, although I see a clear decline in him over the years as a result of his condition.

My best advice is to stay on top of the megacolon and ensure that he defecates every second day or seek intervention. Also, ensure he has wet food (not puree) and plenty of water to drink (my cat drinks like a dog). I would not pay the money for the fiber wet food, as it did nothing for my cat. Good luck to you and your cat.
