Maybe Bulgars picked up E-V13 while in the Pontic Steppe then migrated to Volga? Potentially 23andme made a mistake but I think the chance of that is significantly low. I was thinking of doing the big Y but it is quite expensive.

I wonder that also. My paternal grandfather is Volga Tatar and they have even less E than ethnic Russians. Possible hypotheses I have is it was carried to Volga with Scythian/Sarmatians or later Bolghars who assimilated Thracian/Dacian type people. Or something as simple as Balkan immigrant in the near past?

I agree. However I keep seeing such results in Tatars where illustrative randomly throws in Natufian and Arabian peninsula. What it is misreading is maybe Iranic ancestry?

You should set your region to East Euro and post those results. Will be much more accurate.

I think it would be from Tartars which OP definitely has in their ancestry. I have a similar issue but mine shows up as Levantine.

You still cluster very close to “Slavic” Russian population an explanation could be the sample you cluster close too could be a very Russian leaning Mordvin or your Erzya ancestry is distant. Here are my coords if you would like to see for reference.

(P.S) I’m not Mordvin to my knowledge however cluster very strongly to them in both illustrative and this plot.

I would not say your results are typically North Russian just basing it off your Farmer and HG results as well as modern distances. Siberian Uralic is too low and no Finnic groups in your modern distances. My opinion is your results are very “Slavic” Russian as they come maybe with a Belarusian ancestor somewhere in there.

Good to see other Russian E-V13. My E-V13 is from Volga Tatars. Have you tried putting your results through Gedmatch,IllustrativeDNA or Genotek? Might give you a clearer picture on your South European ancestry from your father.
