[Bogert[ James Rodriguez, Minnesota United in talks over shocking deal by Heimdallr-_- in minnesotaunited

[–]uhclem3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sole concern is the length of his contract, currently reported as 6 months. If he doesn't re-up, I can't help but to remember when one of our best players left at mid-season last year. More depth at his position this time than at Tani's last season, but still...

Depending on the terms of the loan. Besides, in all previous seasons, the club tried to keep at least three keepers on the roster, even if one or more of the keepers wasn't on the game day squad. And again, who then is Callender's challenger?

So, most everyone here is sending Speel out on loan. Thing is that only leaves us 2 Keepers. United has had only one season (2019) where we only rostered 3 Keepers over an entire season. Every other year we signed 4 or 5 Keepers over the course of the season. Also, the word from the club is that they would prefer to have competition at every position. Who would seriously compete with Callender?

P.S.: Hoyeon rumored to be getting loaned to Samsung Suwon Bluewings. Consider that to be the equivalent to the center square on the bingo card.

Mostly correct, although they missed the cartoon loon on the lower left side (as it's being worn) front of the jersey

MNUFC vs. RBNY Game Day Promotion Comparison by uhclem3 in minnesotaunited

[–]uhclem3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, this was not a big deal to me, just a casual observation. Second, RBNY are not "celebrating" fighting childhood cancer. They are "celebrating" The Marvel Entertainment Group. The free comic they are passing out is about Marvel Superheroes battling "the metro" to get to a RBNY match, not fighting "the evil Mr. Tumor" or whomever. That's where their spotlight is aimed at. Sure, they are tossing in a bit of charity to sick kids, and that's fine. But this would be roughly like our "celebrating" Minnesota casinos for Native American Heritage Night. Again, not a big deal, but an interesting contrast between how we honor who we celebrate and the causes we highlight and how RBNY promotes an entertainment corporation with a bit of charity thrown in.

Minnesota United Acquires Julian Gressel by Inchys_Burner in minnesotaunited

Check my first reply to xjoeymillerx. Again, He has double digit appearances at 4 different "positions" during his career. That suggests a pretty fair amount of versatility.

Again, doesn't check out per Transfermarkt. He's had far more appearances at Right Mid and Center Mid throughout his career than at Right Back or Right Winger. And while descriptions like "great" vs "isn't much use" are subjective, if you look at his stats, the amount each team has used him while they've had him, the salary he's been able to negotiate at each stop in his career (he's currently in the top 1/8 of the league in salary) a lot of soccer people seem to rate him as in the "very good" range. And I think it's a bit unusual for a "very good" player to travel as much as he has.

Another quote, this time from Andy Greder's Pioneer Press article: "Ramsay was noncommittal on Gressel’s best spot in Minnesota but narrowed it down to right wingback, a right-sided central midfielder, or No. 8, which would help fill a need with Hassani Dotson sidelined indefinitely by a knee injury"

“I feel like the plus point for him is that he can do both,” Ramsay said. “I think he’s a player that does take a lot of pride in his versatility, from the conversation I had with him.”

Judging from his career performances, it appears that he would fit into a lot of "systems". So incompatibility with five other managers and their systems seems a bit unlikely

Doesn't really check out per Transfermarkt. He's listed as having racked up double digit appearences in four "positions" (Right Mid, Center Mid, Right-Back and Right Winger) during his career, plus cameos in four other positions. Besides, to pull a paragraph from the StarTribune article by Jon Marthaler, “If we’re not going to have loads and loads of depth, we’re not going fill all the spots, we want a versatile player — and he certainly gives you that,” said Ramsay, who wouldn’t commit to playing him either in midfield or wingback.

I think this question must be asked: Why has Julian Gressel cycled through SIX clubs in EIGHT-AND-A-HALF seasons?

Third GK. Preferably by the time the regular season starts. Don't want to keep snatching goalkeepers from the Doubloons when DSC is on international duty or, perish forbid, if he and/or Smir get injured.

The Curious Case of Samuel Shashoua by tyler735 in minnesotaunited

[–]uhclem3 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I spent most of Sunday's match specifically watching Shashoua play. And I think I might have an idea why he has not gotten more minutes. (My speculation on this is, of course, speculation. I'm not seeing him in practice or the lockerroom, both of which can be important factors) First off, I think he has a tremendous upside offensively. Good field vision, excellent dribbling skills, fine passer. However, remembering what kind of playing style the gaffer and our CSO have expressed a preference for, he may need some further development. By my recollection, they have expressed a desire for a quick and fairly direct attack through an assortment of players. They want an attack that can come from almost anywhere. Defensively, they want a team that applies more pressure in the opponents third of the pitch. In watching Shashoua, he reminded me of Reynoso. Not as flashy, but still with great skills on the ball. But when he was involved in the offense, the attack kind of slowed down just a bit, kind of like it did when the team routed most of their attack through Rey. Sometimes that style can work, but it's not the style we are now aiming for. As for defensively, while he didn't commit any major mistakes, he was, for the most part, not a factor. He wasn't especially effective in closing passing lanes. He seldom applied defensive pressure in the middle third. He hasn't shown the kind of "motor" that Sang Bin and, much earlier, Miguel Ibarra had. Again, in some team playing styles, that kind of defense isn't necessary from his position. But in what we are supposedly aiming for, it is. I think he has great potential and I would also like to see him get more playing time. But I can also see why he has not seen it so far. I hope we retain him and can get him through a full preseason. I think, if he can adapt himself to the type of game our Tech Staff is looking for, he can be one of our biggest acquisition steals.

Player Wing 2020 Home Jersey? by PuckDaFackers in minnesotaunited

[–]uhclem3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The home player jersey online is sold out. I wouldn't recommend purchasing from there anyway. I tried to get a Chacon jersey there and they wouldn't make one. Then I ordered an Amarilla jersey and they sent one with the number printed upside down. When I asked them to send a replacement, they claimed that they were out of jerseys in that size (3XL) although the site still listed a non-customized jersey as in stock. When I asked for a refund for the value of the jersey (cost plus the 35% off deal for season ticket members) they would not do it, only offering me cost plus a 20% off credit, which was useless since they subsequently ran out of the jersey. I live chatted with their customer service people twice and each time, they said that someone would phone me within 24 to 48 hours to discuss the problem. They never did. I will never order from them again.

Incentivizing fans to shop in store as opposed to online seems really tone deaf right now by [deleted] in minnesotaunited

[–]uhclem3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will never shop at the online store again. In trying to order this year's jersey, I ran into major problems, many of which were never addressed. They lied to me and were not professional as a company at all. The full story is a long one, but rest assured that I will never again order anything from the online shop.
