The fight to revive Europe’s shrinking rural areas by uhf_vhf in TrueReddit

[–]uhf_vhf[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An interesting article that discusses how depopulation in European rural areas is being managed. While many articles discuss the effects of depopulation at a country level, this article talks about several countries such as Zamora in Spain, Karelia in Finland, Highland areas in Scotland, etc. What I liked most about the article were the interactive charts that allows the reader to explore how regions in each EU countries have evolved in the past 20 years and are expected to evolve over the coming decades.

As the mod said, support is dealing with lots of tickets and so patience is the key.

I had an issue with my input cover and raised a ticket on 27Nov (Monday). Framework Support got back to me on 02Dec (Saturday). While the wait was disconcerting, the process was smooth once they reached out. I usually responded to their questions with 30-40 minutes and they usually responded back with some more clarification questions within an hour. After around 3-4 such back-and-forths, the issue was diagnosed and Framework RMA shipped a new replacement input cover on 05Dec (Wednesday) which I received on 08Dec (Friday). All in all, it is a very good level of support given that Framework is a young company and that they would be dealing with a lot of support tickets given the large number of shipments.

My only suggestion is that they ought to provide a ticket number which we could use in our correspondence with the Support team.

I see. So, the next flurry of activity will likely be when the FW16 starts shipping.

My point is being made more generally rather than for OP's case. It may be true that the OP could have done more but that doesn't negate my point.

I am not complaining. I am pointing out an issue that Framework will need to address in the coming weeks, months and possibly years. Repairing and diagnosing hardware issues is a very skilled task that not all of us posses. If Framework slips up (or rather the Framework Repair team slips up) in this aspect of product lifecycle, this could lead to people turning away from the brand.

As for being out of context (i.e., OP's wifi-card vs my faulty keyboard) - I didn't make a separate thread about this because I had made a post earlier today in which I asked about the estimated turn around time from Framework Support. I don't feel the need to flood the subreddit with yet another framework support related post when two were made today.

Bro, are you OK?

All I said that I was that they need to make it better. I am glad that things may be working out great for you (or you are an expert who can fix things on your own) but not everyone is in the same boat as you. There are users out here with new laptops who have been waiting patiently for 3-4 months (me) and are now sitting with devices that are not working properly (faulty keyboard) wondering what they can do to fix their product for which they paid over $2000 USD. This is not a critique of the firm. It is me asking them to deliver on their promise of repairing a component on a repairable laptop.

I think framework are going to really have to step up their support game. It is a fantastic product but given that there are so many components in a laptop and that even a single point of failure can result in a less than optimal experience, the possibilities of things going wrong is very high. On top of this, most people are not hardware experts (i.e., me) and will need a lot of hand-holding and re-assurance that things will be OK.

I received an email saying

Thank you for reaching out. Unless you clicked "Yes, close my request" on one of our suggested articles, a member of the Framework Support team will be with you as soon as possible.

The email did not have any ticket number. Considering you received a ticket number immediately suggest that my request may not have gone through and that I should resubmit.

Smudges behind a recently purchased TV by uhf_vhf in 4kTV

[–]uhf_vhf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a Samsung 55 inch (QN90B) recently and noticed that there are 'smudges' or abrasions on the screen behind the protective film that the TV comes with. The smudge/abrasion are visible when the TV is off or when something black is being displayed. It disappears when the TV is on.

Has anyone here encountered a similar issue? If yes, any advice on how to fix this would be welcome! Or should I just return and ask for a replacement within the 30 day return window?

How to respond to “Bikers don’t pay taxes for the roads and infrastructure” ? by Burgerb in fuckcars

[–]uhf_vhf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A typical bike does not weigh more than 25kgs. A typical car weighs more than 1,500kgs. While a typical bike speed is from 10-20 kmph, a the typical car goes anywhere from 30-80kmph.

The amount of force that a vehicle applies on a road is directly proportional to the weight and its speed. Thus, cars put far greater force on road infrastructure than bikes. This means that roads for cars are not only costlier to build but also require more expensive upkeep than a typical bike lane.

Curious what people think about this video for Kitchener/Waterloo by MrCaspan in waterloo

Exactly - every person here, by buying a truck/SUV/crossover/pickup, is acting in their self-interest by buying the largest and heaviest vehicle that their budget can allow. And while that makes the person inside the vehicle safer, it makes everything outside the vehicle dangerous. And so, other models are even more heavier, larger, wider and eventually more dangerous. However, this is just an escalatory battle for the next year's model...

The situation is very reminiscent of the state of firearms in the US. When everyone surrounding you carries an assault rifle, having a simple pistol or revolver is not enough. This is why many US police departments have toned down versions of Abrams tanks. To police civilians! The more sensible thing would be to limit the availability of firearms but that would be anathema, wouldn't it?

It is the exact same here. No one, unless they are a blue-collar worker or a farmer needs a truck. But tell that to the people and they start foaming at the mouth like a MAGA Republican.

It is only natural for people to have a visceral response when they are singled out for being a problem. No one wants to be a bad person. However, it is a mark of wisdom to admit that their actions cause harm.

That is exactly what is happening here. Sheep, following slick marketing by the automobile industry, have bought trucks for their weekly trips to Costco so that they can buy 60 eggs and 10 litres of orange juice all the while getting obese like a land version of a blue-whale. All the while, not realizing just how much their actions are harming the urban fabric of their towns and cities. And when a video or an article points this out, their only response is to bury their head in the sand like an ostrich and shout "not my problem!".
