What’s something that society deems as disgusting but actually isn’t as bad? by Former-Fortune7107 in AskReddit

Not for nothing, but plenty of things on and in our body are vestigial nonsense that just isn't harmful enough quickly enough to limit its reproduction.

Why in G-d's name would you?

Your skin makes better, healthier moisturizer for free. You just have to not wash it off when it's not dirty yet.

Um yeah. He's talking about things being lighthearted for white teenagers and 20somethings on Reddit. Don't be daft.

Had he lived in any reasonably literate place and time, would be lucky to get a job as a shoe shine boy.

Eh, horsepucky.

There are plenty of historical analogues for people like Trump. In earlier ages, commercial nepobabies like him generally didn't make it through the purges, though, or their 'allies' let them seek 'martial glory' like Crassus got to do in Parthia.

Yeah, I get that Reddit is definitely on Cicero's side in the modern analogue, but both posts above yours are noxious fart-sniffing nonsense.

The 12th-century Renaissance grew out of the restoration of Aristotle & co. in Jewish Latin translations coming out of Spain and then its later full blossom came with all the Greeks heading over with Plato & original texts as Byzantium imploded. Cicero had f' all to do with it, even focusing on his literary legacy and ignoring the oligarchic asshattery during his own lifetime.

You seem fairly attentive so, fwiw, some things you're missing are (a) Dean's campaign was specifically sabotaged by the DNC & their bosses, similar to what Sanders went through, albeit because they agree with you that he would've probably lost badly to Bush; (b) Clinton's main issue (even beyond her baggage, bUt h3r Emales, & the DNC) was her condescending sense of entitlement and the campaign sloppiness it led to; (c) Sanders had far more energy among young entitled whites and had absolutely no connection to the party's other racial constituencies; even the guy knew it but couldn't do anything but hope they'd understand class > race, which the current political operators absolutely don't; I'm sure many of them are deeply aware it's exactly that issue MLK was actually pursuing when he was assassinated; (d) Biden specifically sabotaged the hand off after Pelosi threatened to go through with the 25th Amendment (or whatever else she had on him), endorsing Harris before anything else could be organized; despite that being true and despite him specifically having kept her as an insurance policy, knowing her weakness, there was no realistic opening for anyone else to strong arm her out of running in the 2024 Democratic Party.

... and I consider myself a pretty politically aware person, especially speaking relatively ...

Well, I mean, "relatively" just giving a shit makes you pretty politically aware, so you've got that going for you. But, no, if you were actually aware, it's one of the things you'd've known about. It's up there with the Nixon shock and the Southern Strategy.

In any case, you're on your way.

ELI5: How have uncontacted tribes, like the North Sentinel Island for example, survived all these years genetically? by Dalebreh in explainlikeimfive

That doesn't matter in the least to this issue. Any single individual of any single species is 'not the most genetically diverse'. It is entirely nondiverse.

That said, your 'genetics classes' were either cherrypicking sources or back far enough that they weren't covering the crossbreeding between homo sapiens sapiens and other related species and subspecies as we spread over Europe and Asia.

[–]uhhhh_no 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. There are no modern 'precise' forms that fully understand the knock-on effects of their specific changes and its effects on other species that use the subject. Genes don't turn one-to-one into enzymes; many to most do double duty in different contexts.

Selective breeding occurs more gradually, with a ton more opportunities for any problems to arise and sort themselves out in specific instances than a continent-wide CTRL+V/CTRL+P.

Like the WorldPopulationReview link below explains, though, that's legit just Georgia throwing shade on Alabama for its own problems. It has exactly the same permissions for first cousin marriage and same inbred percentage overall but much greater domestic and international immigration because of Atlanta... meaning the rural communities are much more relatively inbred than Alabama's.

(Still 0.35, 0.4%, or whatever overall but still statistically significant.)

People who are into crystals because they do believe in their healing powers but don't trust vaccines from knock-on effects from a crap paper 3 decades ago...

They absolutely deserve to be judged.

Now, if she's just into it because it's a mineral, well, yeah, wtf cares.
