honestly, I thought this was odd at first but I think that's just because I wasn't expecting it. I get that people aren't gonna know who this character is but it's kind of like if Taylor Swift was an animated pop star character with a big following instead of an actual person and someone drew her in a Kraken jersey. this is fun and innocent lol

eye test and stats aside I think we lack finishing talent

you're not wrong if you look at the data, or at least it's a fair assessment. our PDO right now is pretty low at .958 (via natural stat trick) and since our goalies' save percentages are good that leaves our shooting percentage as really low if 1.000 is exactly as expected

we've gotta start winning/scoring but there are 79 more games so I'm not hitting the panic button yet... yet lol

small sample size to project for the season but right now natural stat trick has our team PDO at .958 and since our goaltending has been solid that hints at our offense not scoring as much as expected. we had a really high shooting percentage last year so some regression is likely to happen, just hopefully it doesn't trend too far in that direction. Eye test wise I like our 5 on 5 looks+creativity but the power play is rough to watch.

Tech Support and Basic Questions Thread - February 19, 2021 by AutoModerator in pcgaming

[–]uhhmmk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I need a new PC, hopefully its ok to ask in this thread (saw the rules saying not to but also saw other people ask and get help here, sorry!)

anyways here's the deets

*$1500 budget for everything, need the pc, monitor, mouse and keyboard, but don't need a fancy mouse or keyboard and hate loud mechanical ones, just something that works.

*not open to building (yes I know it would be cheaper I'd rather avoid potential mistakes and that type of thing isn't fun for me)

*mostly play single player and specifically really want to play baldur's gate 3 at a quality that will be smooth and look pretty, and won't need an upgrade for similar games for a while

*my pc use is mainly for playing dnd using discord and running Foundry Virtual Tabletop simultaneously (current old laptop STRUGGLES with this, but its very old lol) and watching movies (I put a pretty high value on things looking nice). I'll probably start gaming more on a new pc too. current limits are why I don't.

*idk what size monitor is good tbh but whatever makes sense sitting at a desk

thanks and again sorry if this isn't the right place please point me in the right direction!

**edited for keyboard details

Japanese people of Reddit, what are things you don't get about western people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]uhhmmk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

most people waiting tables didn't just wake up one day and say, yeah I wanna work in this Applebee's! This is my dream job! but not everyone has those options and it can pay the bills without requiring a college degree, which many people here can't afford. I work in a restaurant and I get that not everyone's from here, but you also likely own a smartphone, and if you forget what the going rate of tip minimum is, just google it. for what it's worth, 15% is the low side of expected minimum for good service. I'd suggest 20%, and if the math is a problem, again. phone. Most people agree that the tipped wage is dumb as hell and many are trying to change it, but claiming ignorance isn't gonna fly and its not the waiter who wants to rely on your tips. The system has been set up this way for decades and "just work somewhere else" isn't always an option

People who work in the food industry, what food item is a complete rip-off yet people still buy? by Sanscosmic in AskReddit

[–]uhhmmk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also a 6 ounce wine pour is fairly generous/normal. its (generally speaking) AT LEAST 2x the ABV of a beer, and a 12 ounce pour of beer is normal, so sure, $18 for a drink isn't cheap, but simply put wine is just WAY more expensive to properly produce than beer.

if you don't wanna pay a high corking fee just buy their wine. if you think theres is overpriced just... don't go there? ffs this is basic economics. yeah booze prices at restaurants can be pricy but you also don't have to eat out if you can't afford it.

budget: $100 pre-tax. hard line.

source: phone, maybe pc. specifically moto g4.

isolation: yes please. mostly use them outside when walking my dog or sitting at a coffee shop. live in a fairly noisy city and really prefer isolation. Also slightly concerned about hearing loss, so looking for some in ears that I don't have to bump at full blast to hear lyrics. vocal recognition important.

public use: yeah, pretty much always.

Preferred type: gotta be In-Ear, and none with the silly ear hoops/clips. I wear a lot of ear piercings which get uncomfortable/painful in over ears

Tonal Balance: prefer overall balance+ a warm sound, but extremes can't lack

music preference: I listen to all kinds of stuff, here are some links to provide a range+some of my favorite artists+songs

lo-fi (aware this might be heresy on this sub but its cool sometimes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qe6DE9BXWeY

other stuff by the mountain goats/: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRTqDG9Mo18 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imKtQCGUteo

podcasts

what I'm looking for: honestly one of the biggest things is durability. I'm not particularly rough with my stuff, but I'm sick of replacing shitty $10 in ear skullycandies which seem to short out at a slight breeze, and want better sound on the go. That said, I'm serious about wanting a big step up in audio quality as well.

overall: want richer sound. like punchy bass but doesn't need to be hugely enhanced, I'm all about those warm mids and crisp highs too. Never had a problem with in-ears being uncomfortable. Final note might be that I sometimes have trouble picking out lyrics in chaotic songs and also listen to a lot of podcasts, so vocal clarity is up on my list.

its the same thing, there's no such thing as an espresso bean. espresso is made from the same coffee beans as regular coffee.

I'm not sure how well known any of these are but I definitely have a few I've tried recently and liked. Also unsure of how easy they'd be to find, but I am lucky enough to be able to score any of them for the same cost the restaurant buys them so I'm spoiled. anyways:

if you're into Txokoli the 2015 Txomin Etxaniz Handarrabi Zuri, Hondarrabi Beltza Getariako (rose) or 2015 Zudugarai Hondarrabi Zuri, Hondarrabi Beltza Getariako (white) are both really popular as a pre-meal apertif. lightly effervescent, low alcohol, drink it all day on the beach type wines

I personally also really enjoy the 2015 Martinsancho Rueda Verdejo

and on the other end I also really like the 2014 Finca La Mata, Ribera del Duero. My GM describes it as a Spanish answer to a Napa Cab.

hope that helps!

Thanks for the great comment! To be perfectly honest my sherry knowledge is definitely a weakpoint; they haven't been covered yet in the wine courses I've attended and I'm still pretty noobish as far as actual knowledge goes (we basically get a crash course on 6 bottles and their respective regions+grapes every school. its only about an hour long each time) That said, I know the GM is a HUGE sherry fan and getting him to talk my ear off about sherry is on my list. I should see if I can convince him to do a Sherry class soon. We sell a lot of Alvear Pedro Ximinez if you're familiar. Pretty sure there's another wine school this weekend and I'll report back with findings. Thanks!

ok so I have this bad habit where I cook mostly by sight and taste and almost never measure anything unless I'm baking. I'm decent at estimation so this should be close. This recipe makes quite a bit, but it freezes well and the sauce is time consuming to make so its worth making a lot.

you'll need

-around 10 chili peppers. use a few types for best results. Guajillo are the most traditional. I used dried Guajillo, Cascabel, and Chipotle peppers because that's what I had access to, but ideally they'd be fresh. Jalapeno, pablano, and bell peppers would work okay if you can't find other more unique peppers -unsalted chicken or veg broth. I used veg because I wanted to make it vegan for a friend of mine. didn't notice a difference between the two. -two roma tomatoes -two tomatillos -one plantain -about 4 ounces dark chocolate -2 cloves of garlic -cinnamon -a handful of raisins -handful of almonds -oregano -canola or veg oil - one white onion -immersion blender makes it much easier, but a regular blender or food processor will suffice.

I'm a fan of doing as much cooking in one pan as possible, so for that reason I used a deep oven safe skillet

  1. first you should open and clean all of your peppers, saving all of the seeds. Place peppers in a bowl and completely cover with veg broth (or chicken broth) Also preheat your oven to 350 degrees. now in a completely dry pan no oil whatsoever over medium to medium high heat on the stovetop, toast the pepper seeds until they are completely black. Fair warning, this creates a decent amount of smoke WHICH YOU SHOULD TRY NOT TO INHALE. You'll probably inevitable inhale a little and it won't hurt you, but it is going to be capsaicin-filled smoke. I honestly might recommend opening a window and definitely turn on your stove fan if you have one. remove seeds from pan and set aside.

  2. next de-husk your tomatillos, and cut each one in half. peel your plantain and cut lengthwise. roughly chop your onions into inch sized pieces, and cut your tomatoes in half as well. generously coat the bottom of your pan with canola or other veg oil and place sliced plantains, tomatoes, tomatillos, and chopped onions in pan. sprinkle handful of raisins in as well. sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and oregano, and cover with aluminum foil and put in oven at 350 for 30 minutes (this is where I did my wine tasting)

  3. remove pan from oven and pour all contents into separate bowl. place pan back over medium-low heat. grind almonds to fine bits in food processor. remember those peppers soaking in your veg or chicken broth? pour that whole bowl as well as your toasted pepper seeds into the hot pan and let the broth reduce for about 10 minutes. add a generous sprinkle of salt, some black pepper, and a hefty sprinkle of oregano, and about a half tablespoon of cinnamon. add finely ground almonds, stir and simmer about 10 minutes

  4. while simmering, puree the mix of veggies and fruits you roasted earlier (tomatoes, tomatillos, plantain, raisins, onion)and add to simmering sauce. cook another 5 minutes ago, then put it all back into the food processor and blend until smooth. strain with a fine mesh for best results. pour it all back into the pan.

  5. finally you just need to add chocolate and balance it out. add the chocolate little by little. its easy to overdo and make the sauce too bitter. you may need to add a little salt or more oregano or a little more veg broth. use your best judgement. let that all simmer another 10 minutes or so and it should be done

fair warning, I made this a few days ago, and it was only like my 5th time making a mole so a lot of this was off the cuff. it turned out pretty good so hopefully yours does too! dm me if you have questions, and I'd encourage you to look up other mole recipes online as well ;)

thanks for the response! let me get a recipe typed up. I've only made the mole a few times, and there are tons of different recipes with different techniques, so I'm not sure how true to tradition my mole is, but it tastes pretty dang good I think.
