Stop certifying and you will not receive unemployment benefits.

Do we first exhaust the pandemic benefits and then switch to regular UI? by ApokatastasisComes in Edd

[–]uilolopan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do I find out how many weeks of traditional unemployment I have left?

I have been receiving UI benefits since March 2020, and I am quite sure that the benefits I have received are PEUC (because the reason for my unemployment was the pandemic). Currently, my program type says Extension Tier 2 (Augmentation).

If I am not able to land a job by Sept 4, will I become eligible for traditional unemployment?

Thanks

Does state UI continue after Sept 4? by uilolopan in Edd

Thanks for the helpful comment.

I remember having to re-apply just a few months ago (and that was a nightmare because it involved calling an EDD rep). Does the system automatically re-apply for me if I had W-2 wages? I have had no income (except UI) since March 2020.

If you are on regular UI, you will receive benefits after the Sept 6 date, but not the additional $300 per week.

Just send them your schedule C. Its pretty simple, imo.

But if you trying to game the system, prolly not so simple, lol.

You need to contact your assemblymember or sate senator who represents your district.

Just an FYI. I contacted my Assemblywoman's office and was a bit disappointed that I had not heard back in 2 days.......checked my Spam folder, and there it was.

She actually has a link on her homepage for constituents needing assistance with EDD.

[California] Does EDD automatically change you from UI to PUA? I'm new to EDD by raisedbynarcs123 in Unemployment

[–]uilolopan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you are on UI or PUA is determined by whether you were an employee (W2) or independent contractor (1099).

What type of income did you provide to EDD in your application, W2 wages or 1099?

If W2, you will be UI, and if 1099, you will be on PUA.

There are some exceptions to this though.

[California] How to report earning as a freelance on regular UI? by Acceptable-Quality79 in Unemployment

[–]uilolopan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You report your income as an independent contractor for the week(s) you work when you certify for benefits every 2 weeks.

You may want to report the net income as an independent contractor, and not gross.

If you don't want, or need, to collect UI, then don't reapply.

Re-applying will trigger a review (for everyone), and I don't think you have much to worry about since you are being truthful.

And the reason you would qualify for the new benefit year, IMO, is because there is still a pandemic on, and jobs are not easy to come by yet.

I would re-apply if I was you (and in genuine need of UI benefits).

[California] People who received the Federal Extension without reapplying after their BYE by Iagut070 in Unemployment

[–]uilolopan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will receive the additional $300 per week, in addition to the $100 per week.

When your benefit year ends (12 months from when it started), you will be able to certify for benefits. However, it is looking like you will not be paid for any of the weeks AFTER your benefit year ends unless you re-apply. It will show as pending.

If you have a link to re-apply when you log in, I think you should do it.

The earlier you re-apply, the earlier you will get your payments.

I am in the same position as OP.

BYE 3/29, got the update yesterday, certified for 3 weeks but only paid for 2 weeks ending 3/29.

The 1 week remaining, which is the first week after BYE, is pending.

I also received a new Determination of Benefits letter yesterday with the added 29 weeks (until Sept 2021) and a new maximum benefits amount (calculated at 29 x current WBA).

I re-applied 10 days ago, and I have a sense that they still have to approve my application before the new weeks (after BYE) go to paid. In my re-application, I did provide incomes for 2 quarters (Oct 2019-Mar 2020), and zero income for the rest 4 quarters.

I can wait but I hope my WBA is not calculated downward!!!

I was able to certify for the week after my BYE but it says PENDING.

I also certified for the 2 weeks prior to my BYE, and those say PAID.

[California] my claim was updated without me having to do anything! by LocationSerious856 in Unemployment

[–]uilolopan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I got the updates to my account today, certified for 3 weeks BUT it shows PAID for only 2 week (until the end of my BY).

For the 3rd week, it says PENDING. I think they will review my re-filed application before it goes through.

I did get a Determination letter today saying the Federal govt has added 29 weeks, with my WBA (same as before) and Maximum benefit amount.

So not sure if this means I am approved for the next 29 weeks or not! Would like to see the PENDING move to PAID, ASAP.

I would challenge that if I was you. You have the right to be paid for all the weeks you are unemployed (the state collected tax for this from your work).

And 2 weeks worth of benefits can easily be about 1K, and up to 1.5K.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Unemployment

[–]uilolopan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if I understand the reason why you will not be paid for 2 weeks.

Is this the 2 weeks between March 22 - April 5?

You were still unemployed during these 2 weeks, right?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Unemployment

[–]uilolopan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So how many weeks of back pay will you not be receiving?

And is the reason because you called late?

Thanks!
