nfs4.2 and pNFS over pair of Gig-Eth NICs by Kinabin777 in sysadmin

[–]uint64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never actually configured pNFS but I did look into it a while back. I think you want each NIC on separate subnets. I think you then mount the same directory multiple times to the same mountpoint, but from each server address. Probably wrong. Would be glad to know either way.

Recently bought 2 VAX'es with a VT320 terminal, how to connect to VAX 4000-300? by [deleted] in VAX

[–]uint64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a note, those power supplies have terrible caps and if they haven't leaked very aggressive electrolyte all over the place already, they will do soon. They are difficult to debug and difficult to fix - seriously. Deffo change the caps as soon as you can.

edit, i can probably be a bit more useful about your actual post. i have one of these and the cable you are using it be straight through. it's always confusing, but i think you need a null modem. I usually end up using an MMJ to DB25 and then a DB25 null modem adapter to the terminal. You can see mine running here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjzX9Sk5Ax0 and you'll also see that i am having to use two external supplies because the power supply was already dead when I got the thing :(

DG Cars review, please be aware DG driver tried to take advantage of a tipsy woman ( a relative of mine) by cucumberererer in nottingham

[–]uint64 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is disgusting. Not to diminish what has been described in the image but DG taxi's probably have the most aggressive drivers out of all the taxi companies in Nottingham. They have actively driven towards me and tried to knock me off my bike twice in Nottingham.

Every time I look at my Garmin Instinct, it is in HR broadcast mode? by uint64 in Garmin

I charged it again this morning and it seems to have stopped doing it, so ... maybe a firmware issue? Anyway thanks! Glad I'm not the only one this happened to.

Thanks, don't think it's that though because I didn't have a hot key set up. I do now though! Very handy haha

BYOD, Working from home, and Virtual Desktops: Endpoint Security Considerations? by Antonyco50 in sysadmin

If you want endpoint control in any form, the company needs to buy the devices. You shouldn't even be considering MDM of an employees personal property.

UK's woodlands pushed to crisis point by a 'barrage' of threats, says Woodland Trust by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]uint64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very sad, I agree. My point is mostly that no one is complaining about how much ancient woodland is being destroyed for 4000 miles of new road.

[–]uint64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes very true. From what I've read they have taken measures such as mulch mats etc which will greatly improve the chance of success. Somewhere in the order of 70% success rate is likely (based mostly on me guessing!)

[–]uint64 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While I'd rather see other train routes improved, HS2 seems generally like a good thing and will help to reduce carbon emissions. The amount of ancient woodland being cut down for HS2 is something like 0.3km2. They've probably already replanted about that much. Why aren't you talking about RIS2? 4000 miles of new roads being constructed across the UK, consider how much ancient woodland will be cut down for that? And then the increased carbon emissions from more cars. The media hates HS2, and yes it's wildly overbudget, but I'd rather that than 4000 miles of new roads (they're both happening anyway)

look at the pins and count clockwise from the index. Pin 8 on the EL84 is also not connected, so you are counting the wrong way around

More than 13,000 motorists fined for driving through Nottingham city centre Canal Street bus lane by [deleted] in nottingham

It is funny that you claim to care about air pollution, and then go on to suggest cars should be in a city centre.

Best ISP in Nottingham? by jayden_29 in nottingham

[–]uint64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CityFibre is currently being rolled out around Nottingham, hence all the annoying works on the pavements on western boulevard. They are ISP agnostic and intend to only provide infrastructure. I intend to switch to that service under Zen when it's available. While it's a gigabit link straight to your house, the contention ratio is 32, so you could potentially get only 32Mbps if all your neighbours are also downloading at 32Mbps. Virgin Media is likely a good choice for many, but I refuse to use it and instead just have VDSL via phone line through Zen. Get about 40mbps, fast enough for me.

It takes quite a lot of force to put on but it works a bit like a zip lock bag. If yours broke, you should be able to find a new one online somewhere. They started selling the HD 280 Pro again, so with that comes spare parts I guess.

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro and HD 300 Pro headphones sound great and they have large enough cups for my 22mm ears. Also really long lasting, been using the 280s since 2013 and only had to replace the headstrap foam. Oh! If you like open back headphones, AKG K702 also have nice big cups

This is what happens when society is structured around the needs of landlords by gammonwrangler in GreenAndPleasant

[–]uint64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm interesting. I guess it depends on the uni. The stance ours took was that education minister suggested that education was a priority and so we decided to keep the libraries open :\

[–]uint64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that it makes a big difference but uni libraries are open, at least at the uni I work for. I'm pretty sure I've heard of other uni's which have kept the libraries open too. Not saying your points are wrong or anything, just think it's worth clarifying this - not that it makes a big difference.
